Position Highlights
The Arizona Student Unions is looking to hire multiple on call, part-time Banquet/Alcohol Servers to join our fast-growing Catering and Events team. This position will work as a server at special events, providing banquet service at catered functions and/or alcohol service at various special events. This role will provide staffing support when needed during events including the Tucson Festival of Books, football tailgates, and Broadway in Tucson, among others.The Student Union Memorial Center is one of the largest student unions in the United States. Duties & Responsibilities
- Banquet support - assists with setup, service, and clean-up of banquet functions.
- Banquet service - serves food and/or beverages listed on the banquet event order to the standards of the department and expectations of the client; ensuring consistency in all catered functions; ensures proper presentation and services of food and beverages.
- Event preparation and service (alcohol) - reviews event details prior to event start time to ensure planning and product is in place and prepared to specifications outlines in event orders; selects and mixes ingredients, garnishes glasses, and serves beverages to guests; takes inventory and orders supplies to ensure bars are well stocked with appropriate supplies; ensures safe handling of food, alcohol, and equipment.
- Customer service - welcomes guests, checks identification to ensure guests are of age, determines beverage preferences; makes recommendations and takes drink orders; handles customer complaints actively resolving issues wherever possible and following through with necessary actions and communication.
- Handles cash and credit/debit card transactions, ensuring charges are accurate and returning correct change to patrons; balances the cash register; distributes and records cash tip payments (where applicable).
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the appropriate table settings and service ware.
- Knowledge of food and beverage preparations, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette.
- Knowledge of the organization, job content, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to remember, recite, and promote the variety of menu items.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to effectively communicate.
- Skills in oral and written communication.
- Skills in basic math and computers.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to occasionally move/transport a maximum of 30 pounds.
- Must be able to frequently reach, bend, push, pull and/or carry while performing normal job functions.
- Must be able to work in extreme heat/cold.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or
equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience may be
required. - Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
- Must meet state minimum age to serve alcohol.
- Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in similar position within an upscale environment.
- At least five years of experience in banquet operations.
