Position Highlights

The Lowell Program in Economic Geology seeks an experienced scientist to help lead and advance a unique industry-oriented program focused on professional development, a new graduate certificate, and collaborative research. The Lowell Program is housed in the Department of Geosciences and is affiliated with the University's new multi-college School of Mining and Mineral Resources. The Lowell Program combines MS, PSM and PhD degrees with broad-based continuing education germane to mineral resources. The program is directly supported by two endowed faculty positions and a part-time coordinator.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic planning and leadership

  • Work with faculty, particularly the Lowell and Lundin Chairs in Economic Geology, to develop and advance the overall graduate and professional education programs.
  • Manage professional development and related graduate offerings in LPEG
  • Coordinate with and contribute to the overall professional development and transdisciplinary efforts of the new School of Mining and Mineral Resources

Education

  • Lead / help create new professional development course offerings
  • Engage directly to curriculum development
  • Recruiting internal and external instructors for courses
  • Contribute to teaching, team-teach, or lead courses

Management

  • Help Director manage finances and revenue sources
  • Oversee and develop communications including advertising and others
  • Expand and manage the LPEG Technical Advisory committee

Research

  • Contribute to development of and participate in collaborative research projects and generation of funding from grants and others sources

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Master's degree required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in mineral resources-related field
  • Mining industry or government experience
  • Experience using 2nd language skills within the work environment.
