Position Highlights

The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson is seeking candidates for a Business Intelligence Specialist position within the Information Technology Services (COM-ITS). It is the goal of COM-ITS to be seen as a leader in technology at the University and amongst its peer institutions, and this position plays a key role in achieving that vision.

The Business Intelligence Specialist's role will be the key to the success of the Business Intelligence and Data Services team and the College's reporting needs. It is expected that the successful candidate will bring significant experience to this role in the areas of gathering Business Requirements and creating reports and dashboards. The incumbent will work closely with the team to provide meaningful insights, metrics and visual representations. Over the long term, it is expected that the incumbent will play a major role in the data driven culture at the college.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Gather and understand customers' reporting needs and requirements, design and develop reports and dashboards, and present data to customers.
  • Perform analytical and reporting responsibilities for the college and assist in the creation and publishing of dashboards and reports.
  • Conduct data review, verification, and validation to ensure it conforms with the report requirements.
  • Triage data and business intelligence related requests while delivering high-level customer support.
  • Curate and maintain the data catalog, and manage and respond to data clarification and definition inquiries.
  • Build cross-functional relationships with business units to ensure long-term partnership success. This includes: working independently to gather requirements, facilitate meetings, summarize issues, work with project plans with minimal intervention, and deliver informative, well-organized presentations to stakeholders.
  • Maintain updated documentation of reports and dashboards.
  • Communicate with others on the Business Intelligence and Data Services team about reporting needs that affect data transformation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

*Experience with Business Intelligence (conception, design, implementation, and support). *Experience using data querying tools from relational databases, APIs and multidimensional data structures. *Knowledge of visualization tools such as Power BI. *Skilled at readily manipulating large data sets to produce actionable information and visual analytics. *Understanding and passion for data quality. *Demonstrated pattern of excellent communication and writing for both technical and non-technical audiences. *Ability to establish, maintain and sustain positive, professional working relationships internally and cross-functionally. *Ability to present data in a concise, meaningful way to a variety of audiences. *Candidates who have worked in higher education business environment and have an information technology background are highly desired. *The successful candidate will also possess excellent organizational, technical, and communication skills.
