Position Summary

The University of New Mexico (UNM), College of Nursing (CON) is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as the Assistant Dean of Professional Graduate Programs. The Assistant Dean's primary responsibility is providing visionary leadership in planning, implementing and evaluating professional graduate academic programs, which anticipate nursing workforce needs in a dynamic health care environment. Serve as a key member of the College's leadership team. This includes providing strategic leadership to develop a future vision of the College to enhance current and emerging programs and the stewardship of resources, personnel, and collaboration within the CON, UNM, and across the state.

Authority and responsibility for administration of the professional graduate programs to include but not limited to budget management, workload assignments, management and supervision of faculty and staff, development and enforcement of policies, meeting regulatory and accreditation requirements, teaching, and development and implementation of curriculum.

This is a leadership position, which includes active leadership in academic affairs; commitment to diversity, equity, interprofessional and community engagement. This position provides a vital role in the development of research, scholarship, and clinical programs at the graduate levels, as well as facilitate a culture of effective mentorship. The incumbent is expected to engage in teaching, maintain an active program of scholarship, and service with a consistent record of funding support appropriate for faculty at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (clinical educators or tenure track).

Responsibilities include:

  • Accountable for developing and executing a continuous quality improvement plan for graduate programs and processes including graduate academic program evaluations
  • Conduct annual evaluation of graduate faculty in concert with program directors. In addition completes annual evaluation for the program directors. All evaluations are reviewed by Executive Vice Dean and Dean
  • Oversee program directors for the delivery and evaluation of graduate academic programs including assurance of accreditation standards, and preparation of administrative reports related to graduate clinical academic programs
  • Mentor faculty in scholarly activities in collaboration with the leadership team
  • Supervision and oversight of the quality and effectiveness of individual adjunct faculty's teaching
  • Fiduciary oversight of program budgets in concert with Executive Vice Dean
  • Provide ongoing feedback and create learning opportunities for faculty development and mentorship
  • Facilitate an environment that supports student, staff, and faculty diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Maintain open interactions and availability to students

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • A PhD or related clinical doctorate
  • Must be eligible for rank of Associate Professor or Professor
  • Must be eligible for nursing licensure in New Mexico
  • Demonstrated leadership in the mentorship, development, and advocacy of faculty, students and staff

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Participate in the recruitment and retention of faculty, staff and students.
  • The incumbent has engaged in an active program of scholarship, and service with a consistent record of funding support appropriate for faculty at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (clinical educator track or tenure track).
  • Demonstrated strong track record as a consensus builder and collaborator to meet the organization mission and vision.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
  • Experienced Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
