Position Highlights

The Asthma & Airway Disease Research Center (A2DRC) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will coordinate the daily activities associated with processing of research protocols, generation of phenotypic and molecular data, statistical and data management, project coordination, and the development of new projects in the Population Science Unit. The individual in this role will perform analytical work in the natural history and biomarkers of airway disease, interact and coordinate activities with collaborating institutions domestically and internationally, interface with laboratory personnel and participate in laboratory activities to integrate molecular and epidemiological data, analyze several types of biomarker data involved in the development and progression of respiratory disease. This role requires literature reviews, data analyses, and coordination of multiple activities as well as active teamwork for investigations aimed to the identification, treatment and prevention of complex human diseases. Founded in 1971 as a small, specialized research effort in the respiratory sciences at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, the Asthma & Airway Disease Research Center (A2DRC) has emerged as one of the leading institutions in the world in the field of airway disease epidemiology, and for its contributions to the understanding of the risk factors, natural history, biology and treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team of interdisciplinary researchers to identify hypotheses, coordinate generation of molecular data, develop and implement appropriate statistical analyses plans, and summarize findings.
  • Provide coordination of research activities involving multiple long-term population-based cohort studies that collected and tracked data of thousands of participants.
  • Synthesize data from several respiratory health cohorts and work in close connection with researchers from different local, national, and international research groups.
  • Collaborate with researchers on publications and assist with grant preparation and submission.
  • Work closely with laboratory and data managers on the measurement, quality control, and quality assurance of biological data.
  • Participate in developing protocols.
  • Coordinate activities of complex, international biomarker projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in a relevant field

Preferred Qualifications

*Doctoral degree with a focus in translational science, epidemiology or a related field and at least 2 years of work experience in respiratory research. *Previous experience working on proteins, genes, or biomarkers related to lung diseases. *Considerable independent judgment and advanced knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of biomarker research. *Computer skills/database management and development.*Data analysis program evaluation and literature search. *Ability to conduct training programs/seminars/workshops. *Demonstrable oral and written communications skills.
