Farmingdale State College seeks a full-time ESL faculty member to teach in the LIEOC's Department of English for International Students. The successful candidate will be experienced and adept at teaching reading, writing, speaking, listening, and grammar at all levels to adult ESL students both in-person and remotely. ESL faculty members assist with placement testing prior to the start of each semester and with curriculum development. The LIEOC full-time teaching obligation is 16 hours per week. This is a ten-month tenure-track position.

All faculty members at Farmingdale State College have three workload components: teaching, research and scholarly activity, and service. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest and high level of competence in teaching. Candidates should have a research agenda that complements their area of academic specialty resulting in peer-reviewed publications and presentation, both of which are necessary for promotion and tenure at Farmingdale State College. The service component of the workload includes student advisement as well as active participation on departmental, school and college-wide committees. The faculty member may be expected to teach in multiple formats including hybrid, online and traditional face-to-face classes.

  • A Master's Degree in TESL/TEFL, Applied Linguistics with ESL focus, or related field
  • At least three years of experience teaching ESL/EFL in adult-education, higher-education, and/or IEP settings
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience using remote instructional technologies, such as Google Meet and Classroom
  • Willingness to teach mornings or evenings
  • Ability to teach in person and virtually


  • Doctoral degree in TESL, Applied Linguistics, or related field
  • At least five years of experience teaching ESL/EFL in adult-education, higher-education, and/or IEP settings
  • Experience teaching abroad
  • Knowledge of TABE Clas-E or willingness to be trained
  • Proficiency in more than one language
  • Experience using Blackboard or similar platform for course delivery

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, 10 month, tenure track faculty position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Wednesday, June 22, 2022 and ending Tuesday, July 5, 2022, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.
  • SALARY: $60,000-$65,000/year, dependent upon experience
  • ANTICIPATED START DATE: September 1, 2022
