Systems Developer- IL- Information Technology Services
The Systems Developer position assists with the development of software applications to integrate the University's administrative computing system with other University and third-party systems.The position reports to the Manager of Systems Development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop front end website architecture
- Design user interactions on web pages
- Develop back end website applications
- Create databases to support website applications
- Ensure responsiveness of applications
- See through a project from conception to finished product
- Design, develop and work with APIs
- Make modifications to existing backend applications and front end websites
- Provide support and training to end users
- Stay abreast of developments in web applications and programming languages

- 3-5 years of strong software programming and database management skills
- Strong organizational, project management and interpersonal skills
- Solid understanding of the software development process, including requirement gathering, analysis/design, development tools/technologies, release/version control, contemporary testing methodologies
- Ability to present and explain technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others and gains understanding
- Ability to work with technical and non-technical users
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering or a related information technology field from an accredited institution and 3-5 years of experience in a software programming environment required.
- Proficiency with Perl/CGI and Apache a plus
- Familiarity with Linux based systems
- Familiarity with database technology such as SQL, Informix or other RDMS
- Experience with Java EE a plus
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
High skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to top management, and boards of directors
High skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Intermediate skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions and proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
