Position Highlights

The Division of Clinical Data Analytics and Decision Support in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, seeks to recruit faculty specializing in working with data management and standards, advanced quantitative analytics, biomarkers, clinical outcome assessment tools and regulatory science. This will include creating a pre-approved Process for Pharmacogenomics with the Federal Drug Administration. Related tasks may include guiding clinical research, teaching, promoting the process, creating business models and identifying key markets and customers for a new PGx process. Reporting directly to division leaders, the preferred candidate will have established successful programs with the FDA, other players in the pharmaceutical industry and academic institutions.

Applicants must possess a PhD and/or MD (or equivalent) and post-doctoral training/experience in the proposed field of study. Candidates must have prior experience creating new process in clinical drug trials, organizing a new business unit, obtaining, and maintaining revenue and budgets, as well as devising and successfully implementing new policies in partnership with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The candidate will be required to submit intramural and extramural funding plans including research grant proposals, licensing agreements, consulting services and innovative funding mechanisms.

The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department, actively participate in teaching, clinical service and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop
    innovative processes, programs that will reduce the risk and expedite
    medical product development.
  • Leverage CDADS
    competencies in decision support to improve medical product development.
  • Implement new
    programs in data science for PGx and other initiatives.
  • Advance and grow
    a pipeline of collaborative pre-competitive efforts in drug development.
  • Partner with
    public and private entities to increase the reach of the CDADS division
    into the healthcare market.
  • As the program
    grows, develop and organize new teams of project managers and other
    faculty and staff.
  • Leverage deep
    regulatory experience to create new regulatory processes.
  • Collaborate with
    global regulatory agencies such as FDA, EMA, PMDA.
  • Conduct a
    feasibility analysis on the PGx and other Decision Support initiatives.
  • Identify unmet
    medical product development needs associated with CDADS expertise.
  • Build scientific
    consensus among academia, government, patient organizations and industry
    to develop new tools for medical product development.
  • Research and other scholarly work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD, DO, or PhD.
  • Track record of establishing new medical product development.
  • Proven success in collaborating with regulatory
    agencies.

Preferred Qualifications

* Minimum 5 years' experience in partnering with regulatory agencies.

* Minimum 10 years' experience in new medical product development.

* Experience creating new approved processes and products in a healthcare setting.

* Outstanding interpersonal communication and professionalism skills.
