POSITION SUMMARY:

The mission of Pierce College is to create quality educational opportunities for a diverse community of learners to thrive in an evolving world.

Serving in the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion department, College Access, Retention and Engagement Services (EDI CARES) the College Access Engagement Manager is primarily focused on closing college access gaps, increasing persistence, degree completion, and college/university enrollment for students enrolled in EDI CARES programs. The EDI CARES division is the lighthouse to several Department of Education grants and programs:

TRIO Legacy Scholars Programs: Student Support Services, Talent Search, Upward Bound. Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISI).

Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP).

Native and Indigenous, Black and Brown Excellence student empowerment programs.

This position joins a dynamic team that provides holistic and culturally sustainable services with a specialized focus for students who are historically marginalized and disenfranchised. About the TRIO Legacy Scholars Programs Upward Bound

The TRIO Upward Bound Legacy Scholars program focuses on increasing access to higher education of 60 first generation and under-resourced scholars attending Clover Park High School. Upward Bound students receive academic advising, personal mentoring and college preparatory support for college admissions, entrance exams, financial aid/scholarship application assistance, and local and out of state college campus tours. The TRIO Upward Bound Legacy Scholars program is funded 100% through a federal TRIO grant by the U.S. Department of Education until August 31, 2027.

Talent Search

The TRIO Talent Search Legacy Scholars program focuses on increasing access to higher education of 500 first generation and under-resourced Franklin Pierce District students attending Franklin Pierce High School, Washington High School, and Perry G. Keithly Middle School. TRIO Talent Search Legacy Scholars receive academic advising, personal mentoring and college preparatory support for college admissions, entrance exams, financial aid/scholarship application assistance, and opportunities to explore college campus tours. The Talent Search Legacy Scholars program is funded 100% through a federal TRIO grant by the U.S. Department of Education until August 31, 2026.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Providing Direct Student Engagement & Retention Services:

• Create a brave and collaborative environment that centers anti-racism, equity, and solidarity that is inclusive to the experiences of students, staff, and college community.

• Provide culturally relevant services to EDI CARES College Access Programs student

caseload of diverse backgrounds (African/African American, Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI), Latino(a)/Hispanic, and Native American/Alaskan Native/Indigenous), first generation, students with disabilities, and/or under-resourced.

• Assess students using program specific intake forms, exploring past educational

experiences, identifying cultural barriers to success, and other barriers to program completion and make appropriate referrals to internal and external partners.

• Provide holistic and culturally sustainable support services to new, continuing and returning students.

• Create an atmosphere for EDI CARES students to feel affirmed, empowered and valued.

• Develop, implement and coordinate strategies that meet EDI CARES College Access programs objectives for persistence, completion, college/university enrollment for student caseload.

• Work on the development, implementation, and support of innovative practices, policies

and programming that promote student achievement and degree completion with an emphasis on closing equity gaps in college access.

• Provide systematic communication with students through multiple methods, including district approved technology.

• Assist and collaborate with College Access program staff in the design, recruitment and implementation of summer access programs for enrolled and prospective students in EDI CARES programs.

• Perform other duties as assigned by EDI CARES leadership staff.

Provide External and Internal Engagement Services:

• Explain the EDI CARES college access programs to individuals, college community, and local community organizations.

• Conduct monthly culturally responsive, financial, educational learning sessions for target

middle and high schools, student ambassadors and student workers to meet the needs of program students.

• Plan, organize, coordinate activities, events, and collaborate with division staff to implement student induction for new incoming students.

• Promote external engagement efforts which may include visitations to secondary schools and community based organizations as needed.

• Assist with providing college community with current cultural issues and challenges impacting students.

• Represent the college at external community functions and meetings.

• Assist staff to develop, organize, supervise, and recruit eligible students for EDI CARES Summer access programs, workshops, forums, conferences, campus tours and related college- sponsored events.

• Assist with the development and/or selection of marketing and promotional materials, including media packages to increase engagement and enrollment for students in EDI CARES College Access programs.

• Work in collaboration with EDI CARES College Access staff, Equity Empowerment programs and Student Life district teams to ensure division goals are met.

Administrative Support:

• Maintain administrative record keeping, student contracts for annual performance reports, and documentation for student and program outcomes.

• Complete monthly reports for travel, purchase card, and/or finance reconciliation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education:

A Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Sciences, Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM), or any related field of study.

Required Experience:

At least 2 years experience providing direct service to clients, or students in middle, high school, and/or college.

Experience working in diverse communities from marginalized and disenfranchised backgrounds such as first generation, low income, students with a disability, and students from diverse ethnic/cultural backgrounds.

Special Requirements:

Terms of Employment:

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) administrative-exempt position with Pierce College District. The primary work location will be Pierce College Fort Steilacoom. Infrequent travel to Pierce College campuses or sites may occur. Work hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position may be subject to reassignment between campuses or sites.

Salary & Benefits:

The starting salary range of this position is $67,195 - $72,795 annually (dependent upon qualifications). However, your paycheck is just part of the total compensation package. There is an outstanding benefits package which is worth an additional value equivalent to about 30% of your salary. Physical Work Environment:

This position works indoors in an office environment, which requires visual concentration on detail, dexterity and precision. Willing and able to sit for 4 or more hours per day.
