The Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) is seeking applicants for a full-time Assistant Director, MIS Academic Operations. This position will be responsible for all aspects of academic administration for the MIS and MSBA (Business Analytics) graduate programs. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, student advising and course registration, as well as maintaining class schedules, course catalogs, and department brochures. The incumbent will also be responsible for monitoring students' academic progress, program requirements, and progress toward graduation.
A critical responsibility for this position is building formative relationships with students by interpreting information and providing clarification on procedures and academic requirements of specific programs and/or concentrations. The ideal candidate will assist students in successfully integrating into the institution's environment and thriving academically and personally.
This position reports to the Director of MIS Career Management and interacts with a broad constituency including graduate students, faculty, alumni, recruiters, the business community, university administrators, personnel in other university departments, and with peer institutions.
The MIS Department is one of six academic departments in the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona. The department has been ranked in the top 5 in the field of information systems for over 30 years.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate with MIS Department Head to plan the schedule of classes and submit and maintain the schedule and room assignments in UAccess for all MIS and MIS-offered courses.
- Coordinate with Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs to schedule future semester classrooms for MIS courses.
- Submit and monitor curriculum changes and course additions.
- Manage the Student Course Surveys (SCS) process including scheduling of SCSs and retrieving the data from completed SCSs.
- Assess individual student's academic and career preparation and promote growth by determining suitable development tasks to assist them in attaining academic and career goals.
- Serve as the students' primary advisor in determining educational plans, transfer credit evaluation, course selection, and exploring degree and career options; culminating in graduation.
- Identify educational and career options appropriate for each student and assist student with evaluating each option, including possible outcomes and their implications.
- Monitor students' academic progress, determine satisfactory progress toward degree, and assists students in completion.
- Identify current and potential needs or problem areas (e.g., study skills, tutoring).
- Advise students with academic difficulty on development of an academic action plan and refers students to appropriate campus resources for assistance as needed.
- Maintain student files and records and advisors' notes using University systems.
- Communicate and maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations and policies that impact students' educational options.
- Assist students with negotiating University, College and Department processes and procedures, including but not limited to plans of study, progress towards degree, academic probation, letters and petitions, schedule changes, services related to special needs, etc.
- Maintain the student handbooks for the main campus graduate programs.
- Support department through participation in a variety of department activities and collaborations.
- Work with the Department's Graduate Admissions Coordinator, PhD Program Director, and the MIS Graduate Committees on new graduate student admissions.
- Coordinate with campus partners to register students for class as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Master's Degree.
- Experience in Higher Education.
- Experience with University of Arizona systems.
- Experience with University Advisor tools.
