Job Summary

The Program Director, under general direction, directs the administration of the TRIO STEM program providing student support services, including planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling program activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops program strategic plans, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures program objectives are met.
  • Identifies and secures program funding and expansion resources.
  • Evaluates program procedures and performance reports.
  • Directs and supervises program staff.
  • Develops, oversees, and approves program budgets.
  • Analyzes program statistics for reporting, tracking progress, and making adjustments to programs. Maintains program activity records and provides monthly progress reports.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Advocating on behalf of SSS students for services.
  • Collaborating with internal and external offices and constituencies, including faculty and staff from other units and divisions and representatives from the Department of Education.
  • Working with diverse student populations in higher education.
  • Design, administration and implementation of federally funded programs targeting college retention populations.
  • Direct supervision of mentors to address student issues related to academic, behavioral, and emotional problems.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education - Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Psychology, Education, or related field.
  • Experience - Seven years of related experience in program including at least 2 years related supervisory experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's degree or higher in Business, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or related field.
  • Experience in mentoring and mentoring issues.
  • Familiarity with policies and issues affecting first generation, low-income and students with disabilities.
Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:
  • Word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Ability to:
  • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking, organizational and leadership skills
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Maintains attention to detail and utilizes sound judgment.
Preferred Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Program management, i.e. managing day-to-day operations; recruiting staff and students; designing services; managing and evaluating staff; providing professional development; overseeing direct service activities; providing case management and advising; maintaining an accurate record-keeping system.
  • Budget management, including developing and monitoring a budget.
  • Policies and issues affecting first generation, low-income and students with disabilities.
  • Supervisory, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
Ability to:
  • Build interpersonal relationships that foster effective collaboration with college students, faculty and administration.
  • Assess and prescribe a plan of project services for each participant.

Salary: $61,012/annually
