Position Summary

The College of
Population Health (COPH) welcomes applications for an Associate
Dean, Professor of Population Health, tenured and tenure-track faculty
to join our growing college in the areas of epidemiology, biostatistics, psychometrics, health economics, nutrition, global health,
and/or dissemination and implementation. We seek to recruit a faculty
member who is committed to supporting the dean in organizing and growing the
college as well as working with diverse communities including racial/ethnic as
well as urban and rural.

COPH, located at
the University of New Mexico's Health Sciences Center, serves New Mexico's communities,
government and non-profit agencies, businesses and health-related
organizations. The College and Health Sciences Center have deep connections to
the diverse communities of Native Americans, Latinos/Hispanics, Asian
Americans, and African Americans, who collectively comprise 65% of the New
Mexico population. COPH mission areas
are to improve health and health equity for low income, underrepresented
minority, and other vulnerable populations.

COPH supports
diversity, equity, and inclusivity throughout the Health Sciences and the wider
state of New Mexico to foster health and well-being by weaving cultural
humility and respect for all people. We strive to recognize, cultivate and
promote all forms of diversity; to fully understand the health needs of our
communities; and to advance academic and research excellence.

COPH provides
multiple paths for our faculty to promote our teaching and mentoring
mission. For example, COPH currently
houses the Bachelor of Science in Population Health (BSPH) and the Master of
Public Health (MPH). Further, we are
starting a new cooperative doctoral degree in Health Equity Sciences with New
Mexico State University's College of Health, Education and Social
Transformation which is scheduled to launch its first class in Spring'23. Further, we are now transitioning our college
into a School of Public Health with the goal of becoming an accredited school
within the next five years.

The BSPH Program
represents a liaison between the study of health care systems, finance and
health policy, and health law with an emphasis on prevention and wellness in
communities. The BSPH major, UNM's newest undergraduate major, is the essence
of trans-disciplinary science and is not solely the combination of multiple
disciplines. It incorporates training and skills in a new science focused on
answering complex questions about the sources of health and the causes of
illness and disability.

The MPH Program
promotes an interdisciplinary and comprehensive approach to education,
research, and community engagement. It offers students many opportunities to
practice public health skills in communities and organizations. The program
also fosters critical thinking about issues addressed by the students (e.g.,
social justice), who have backgrounds in a broad range of social science,
biomedical science and clinical disciplines. The MPH program is accredited by
the Council on Education for Public Health.

Founded in 1889, The
University of New Mexico is New Mexico's flagship R1 research-intensive
institution occupying nearly 800 acres near historic Route 66 in the heart of
Albuquerque, a metropolitan area
of more than 500,000 people. UNM is one
of only nine R1 Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) universities in the country.

Albuquerque is
one of the oldest cities in the United States and boasts a unique multicultural
history and heritage where cultural influences of Native Americans, Hispanics
and Latinos, African Americans, and other communities of color are a part of
everyday life. Known for its 310 days of sunshine, Albuquerque is a prime
location for outdoor activities such as biking, climbing, hiking, skiing, and
more! Along with its rich history, Albuquerque offers world-class visual and
