The Cinema, Television & Media Department at Belmont University is seeking applications for a full time film production faculty position to begin on August 1, 2022.

The new faculty member will be a narrative film and/or television screenwriter experienced in all aspects of script development, preproduction, and production. The successful candidate will teach beginning and advanced undergraduate storytelling and screenwriting courses and undergraduate production courses. Normal teaching load is four courses each semester.

Depending on the successful applicant's qualifications, position may be Assistant Professor, a tenure track position, or Instructor, a non-tenure track position.

The Motion Pictures Department at Belmont University is rapidly expanding and nationally recognized. We offer undergraduates a BA, BS, or BFA in Motion Picture Production and a BA or BS in Film & Television Writing. Housed in the Johnson Center, a six year old production facility with a 2,500 s.f. sound stage and 250 seat theater / Dolby Atmos mix stage. Students also have access to a 50 seat theater / mix stage and mix studio with Avid S6 consoles, color correction suite, 4K edit bays, Foley / ADR stage, and state of the art cameras and production gear. Note: Tennessee has no state income tax.
  • Engage in program assessment, academic advising, student mentoring, and providing instruction in Belmont's BELL Core General Education.
  • Additional responsibilities may include department / college / university service.
  • Complete 24 workload hours, or equivalent, per academic year.
  • Advise and mentor students in research and other class-related projects.
  • Engage in activities to support the mission and vision of Belmont University and the college in which you teach.
  • Participate in departmental and university committee work.
  • Engage in scholarly activity and professional development.
  • Advise students in course selection and degree completion.
  • Participate in a local church and the community.
  • Abide by all relevant university and/or department procedures and policies.
  • Manage online grading system.
  • Timely submission of book orders, if textbooks required.
  • Maintain regular office hours.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University. Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
Required Education A Bachelor's degree is required. A terminal degree in narrative film or television screenwriting is desirable but not required.

Required Experience Multiple years of professional experience in narrative film or television screenwriting is required. Teaching experience is a plus, but not a requirement. Experience with film and television production is a plus.
