Position Highlights

The University of Arizona (UArizona), Campus Health Service's (CHS) is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Nutrition Counselor. This position will provide nutrition counseling for UArizona students and support other nutrition- related services, campus-wide collaborations, events, and outreach programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide highly skilled nutrition
    counseling and care for students, including medical record charting, in
    collaboration with other health care providers, family members and other
    relevant parties for whom we have a release (comprises ~50% of total time).
  • Create and/or update client
    forms and educational materials.
  • Provide mentorship and nutrition expertise as the advisor of the Cooking on
    Campus and Dorm Room Eats programs, in collaboration with the Student Health
    Advocacy Committee, including coaching students in recipe development and demonstration; recipe analysis; website management; marketing coordination; supervising student coordinator and student chefs; guide interactive tabling at relevant campus-wide events,
    or other opportunities, to promote the program or provide cooking-related
    nutrition education; and availability in the late afternoon/early evening one day a
    week for recipe testing and classes on alternating weeks.
  • Develop
    and/or coordinate other outreach programs that may or may not provide service
    learning opportunities to students, as determined or assigned.
  • Write
    nutrition-related articles for CHS (NutriNews and Living Wild), UArizona (Paw Prints,
    for example), and other publications as requested and/or as time allows.
  • Participate
    on the Eating Disorders Assessment Team (EAT), the Healthiest Campus Coalition,
    and other committees, as assigned and as schedule allows.
  • Develop,
    coordinate, and execute marketing plans (including social media) in
    collaboration with CHS Graphic Designer and Social Media Director, for all
    nutrition-related programs, events, and services, for which this position is

    opportunities to collaborate with other units on campus to improve student
    nutrition and to mentor students, as time allows.
  • Supervise
    Dietetic Interns as a preceptor during their wellness rotation in CHS-HPPS.
  • Give
    presentations on nutrition-related topics for UArizona classes and groups, and at
    conferences/meetings at the local, state, regional, and national levels, as
    requested and time allows.
  • Assist with
    Food Day (annual campus-wide event)
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Nutrition and counseling knowledge relevant to a college
    population on a wide variety of clinical nutrition issues including "well"
    nutrition, eating disorders and disordered eating (including body image issues
    and emotional eating), digestive health (including celiac disease), hyperlipidemia
    and other CVD-related nutrition concerns, hormone function and management
    (including PCOS, DM), performance/sports nutrition, demonstrated by
    participating in relevant continuing education opportunities.
  • Understand and advocate for
    non-diet, weight inclusive approach to care.
  • Maintain an organized practice, with
    attention to details and the ability to multitask.
  • Operate with initiative, as an
    independent worker and as a team player.
  • Maintain competent culinary
    skills, including food/cooking demonstration skills.
  • Maintain competency with ESHA
    Food Processor nutrition software; Word, Excel, and other common software
    programs; and with social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,
    Snapchat, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's
    degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional
    level experience required.
  • Licensed as a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RD/N) with
    the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the
    Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in nutrition or a related field.
  • Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
  • Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian (CEDRD) from the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.
  • Experience in outpatient counseling using motivational interviewing.
  • Experience with a patient-centered approach to treatment.
  • Experience with website management and other online social media such as Instagram and Pinterest.
  • Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
