Position Highlights

The Department of Basic Medical Sciences (BMS) at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix is recruiting a full-time, educator scholar track faculty member (non-tenure eligible). The successful recruit will direct the biochemistry curriculum, provide case-based instruction for medical students, and serve as director/co-director for one or more of the organ systems blocks. The recruit will be expected to have a commitment to innovative curricular design, furthering equity, diversity, and inclusion, and active participation in research and service.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the biochemistry curriculum in the undergraduate medical education (UME) program to ensure that program goals and Step-1 readiness are assured.
  • Design, develop, and implement biochemistry sessions including, but not limited to recorded preparatory content, in-class active learning sessions, workshops, assessments, etc.
  • Serve as a course/block director and/or co-director as required for optimal leadership succession planning.
  • Participate in case-based instruction as a facilitator in various organ systems blocks.
  • Serve as a mentor to medical students in the Scholarly Project courses.
  • Seek funding for and conduct research, submit research for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and present findings at departmental seminars and professional meetings.
  • Participate in journal clubs, workshops, and other professional development opportunities on campus.
  • Participate in departmental and college committee service as well as in ad hoc work groups and task forces.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in an applicable field.
  • Prior biochemistry teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience directing UME or related blocks/courses/clerkships.

- Outstanding record of teaching accomplishments.

- Postdoctoral training.
