FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt = overtime eligible
Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend work required.

One position is available with the potential to be filled at either level depending upon the selected applicant's experience. Levels include: Social Media Coordinator and Senior Social Media Coordinator.

Salary: Targeted salary ranges: $33,760-$36,300 Social Media Coordinator; $40,560-$43,600 Senior Social Media Coordinator

Travel: Less than 10%

Brief Statement of Duties
: Social Media Coordinator:
Collaborate with staff and faculty across campus to plan, develop and execute Northern Michigan University's social media strategies. Oversee the university's official accounts and help other campus departments to coordinate their own presence. Serve as the university's social media expert and be responsible for staying in-tune with trends and new technologies and proactively providing innovative ideas and marketing solutions that propel Northern's business goals.

Senior Social Media Coordinator:
Collaborate with staff and faculty across campus to plan, develop and execute Northern Michigan University's social media strategies. Manage the university's official accounts and will play an integral role in directing the presence of other departments' accounts. Serve as the university's "first responder" to an abundance of customer-service related inquiries and alert appropriate departments or individuals of potential issues or crises that may arise through social listening. Serve as the social media expert of campus and stay in-tune with trends and new technologies. Proactively provide innovative ideas and
marketing solutions that propel Northern's business goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Discipline / Degree Area: Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field

Required Specialized Training/Certifications:

Required Minimum Work Experience:
Social Media Coordinator:
One year full-time experience working in marketing or communications.

Experience with:
managing multiple social media platforms for a business or a brand;
developing, implementing and measuring social media campaigns;
creating social media content; and
providing customer service.

Senior Social Media Coordinator:
Three years' full-time experience working in marketing or communications.

Experience with:
  • managing multiple social media platforms for a business or a brand;
  • developing, implementing and measuring social media campaigns;
  • creating social media content;
  • providing customer service;
  • using data to drive marketing strategy and decisions;
  • working in B2C marketing;
  • marketing to an array of audiences; and
  • gathering analytics and developing reports to be shared with upper-level management.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: Social Media Coordinator and Senior Social Media

Coordinator:
Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
Strong copywriting/copyediting skills.
Experience creating content in the Adobe Creative Suite.
Ability to respond to quickly changing priorities or new demands with flexibility, promptness and precision.
Public speaking skills.
Excellent critical thinking skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Ability to collaborate well with a team.

Social Media Coordinator:
Demonstrated creativity.

Senior Social Media Coordinator:
Ability to work independently, demonstrating good project management skills and the ability to organize
and prioritize a variety of tasks.
Ability to synthesize and analyze large amounts of data to create reports that communicate value and
return on investment for marketing efforts.
Ability to train others on a web content management system.
Understanding of the principles, operation and maintenance of a large web site with varied audiences.
Knowledge of SEO best practices.
Experience utilizing a CMS and basic HTML coding knowledge.
Demonstrated creativity in delivering content.

Additional Desirable Qualifications
 Social Media Coordinator and Senior Social Media Coordinator:
Knowledge of university admissions processes.

Social Media Coordinator:
Higher education marketing experience.

Senior Social Media Coordinator:
Experience working in higher education marketing or communications.
