Samford University’s School of Health Professions invites applicants interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of Department Chair and Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy. This tenure-track faculty position is a 12-month appointment and will begin in January 2023. The major responsibilities of the department chair are to provide leadership in strategic planning, fiscal management, assessment, and overall development and evaluation of the faculty and staff in the department. Department chair may also serve as program director. Responsibilities as a faculty member, include teaching, scholarly activity, and service. Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: program assessment, accreditation standards and reports, curriculum development, student advising, and student mentoring.

Qualified candidates will hold a physical therapy degree from a CAPTE-accredited program. Candidates must also hold an academic doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D, D.Sci.). Candidates must hold current licensure, or be eligible for licensure, in Alabama as a PT. Candidates should have previous academic experience as a faculty member in an accredited PT program, have demonstrated leadership experience, and have demonstrated commitment to collaborative learning models and innovative physical therapy education. A commitment to academic excellence and the ability to work and communicate effectively with faculty, students and colleagues are expected.

The College of Health Sciences includes four schools: School of Health Professions, Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing, McWhorter School of Pharmacy, and School of Public Health. The College offers multiple degree programs and majors within the health sciences with an inter-professional education focus that reflects today’s team approach to health care delivery and professional practice.
