This full-time employee in the Instructional Technology Office (ITO) works as an instructional designer. This individual develops and conducts training and support of staff, faculty, and students relative to using technology in teaching and learning. This position provides pedagogical and educational technology support for the college's rapidly changing instructional environment. The position serves as a consultant to instructional divisions and individual faculty and staff regarding the integration of technology into curricula; the development and implementation of technology-enhanced instruction; the effective and efficient design of face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses; new faculty development and training requirements; and methodologies associated with the application of various technologies to teaching and learning. This individual serves as a point of contact for the Laurel Ridge Online section of the College website, and assists with ensuring compliance with online compliance standards and Department of Education distance education regulations.

Telework


According to DHRM policy 1.61 Teleworking, effective July 5, 2022, Virginia state employees will return to the workplace. Consistent with pre-pandemic policies, telework may be an option for certain eligible positions. Eligible positions are determined by the type of work and job requirements of the position, as defined by heads of agencies. Positions requiring more than two days of telework weekly will require approval from the Department of Education's Cabinet Secretary. Positions requiring more than two days of telework weekly require approval from the Office of the Governor's Chief of Staff.

The hiring range for this position is $55,000.00-$75,000.00. Salary will commensurate with education and experience. KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree, graduate certificate, or master's degree in instructional design/instructional technology or closely related field.
  • Proven knowledge of online pedagogy and learning theories, instructional design models, inclusive pedagogy and universal design in learning.
  • Considerable experience assisting subject matter experts (faculty) in course design and curricular development, and designing and conducting high-quality training for staff, faculty, and students.
  • Considerable experience of educational technologies, multimedia techniques and tools, and educational software applications to create instructional materials in various formats, including handouts, web pages, and videos.
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with learning/course management systems (Canvas preferred) and in applying a variety of software applications and web-based authoring and publishing systems (e.g., Articulate, Camtasia, Photoshop, Zoom, Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills; superior customer-service; and work with a variety of users in a team environment; manage workflows independently; learn new skills and software applications that support learning;
  • Familiarity with Open Educational Resources (OERs), and ADA compliance and accessibility issues.
