About This Role:

The Director is responsible for providing leadership, oversight and management for the programs and services supporting career connected learning, employer outreach, alumni engagement, and donor development. The Director coordinates, manages and directs a staff of career and testing personnel to provide career consultations, personal assessment, in-person and virtual employers, networking, and career search techniques to enable students to access and interview for professional positions. As a leader in the Student Engagement Division, the Career & Professional Center Director is expected to maintain and encourage a professional, collaborative and solutions-orientated approach to student career development.

What You’ll Do – Position Duties

As a member of our team, you will have an impact on our clients through accomplishment of the following responsibilities:
    • Actualize a contemporary knowledge of career services, including: career advising and development; current world of work and employment, internships, and similar experiential programs; employer relations and cultivation; and professional and graduate school advising.
    • Identify and lead new initiatives to cultivate relationships with corporate leaders, elected officials, and alumni to develop internship opportunities to promote student learning both in and outside the classroom and job opportunities.
    • Expertise and a proven track record in capacity to cultivate and sustain relationships with businesses non-profit and civic organizations, and other potential employers.
    • Supervise, hire, train, evaluate career and testing staff.
    • Develop and implement career development programs for special populations that include first generation college, students with disabilities and veterans.
    • Promote and market career services and resources to internal and external constituents via outreach and workshop programs, campus publications, classroom visits and new student orientation presentations.
    • Oversee strategic delivery of Center programming, events, communication, and partnerships.
    • Evaluate and implement technologies that provide state-of-the art software programs for students and employers to increase career readiness and employer engagement.
    • Provide a testing program that is complying and monitors participants for a clear testing process. Offers a full range of testing services for aptitude and achievement and coordinate testing required by the university and national testing institutions.
    • Publish favorable outcomes and student success information to donors, prospects and university departments.
    • Maintain accurate alumni and graduate placement data.
    • Maintain best practices and standards set by professional organizations such as the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE).
    • This position is classified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act and a responsible employee under Title IX.
    • Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to the university’s needs.

What You’ll Need to Succeed – Minimum Qualifications

To be successful in this role and a great addition to our team we need you to come with the following:
    • Masters degree in, Higher Education Administration, or Student Affairs, Masters of Business Administration/Human Resource Management, or closely related field is required.
    • Five years of progressively responsible experience related to career services, career planning, and development, recruitment, employment services is required. Supervisory skills of professional staff in a higher education context or equivalent.

  • Well-developed public relationship skills in order to maintain effective and professional working relationships with students, parents, alumni, donors, faculty, staff, administrators, and members of the general public.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to publicly present to student and student groups, employers and alumni regarding career development and/or job search processes.
  • Willingness to work a schedule with occasional weekend for student recruitment or orientation events when needed.
