Professor of Scenic and Lighting Design, 1-year appointment

The Department of Theatre, Snow College seeks applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre. This is a fulltime, 1-year, non-tenure track, term position with the possibility of becoming tenure track following the initial period. The successful candidate will teach courses in set design, lighting design, scenic painting, and stagecraft, as well as design the sets and lights for one departmental show per semester and supervise student designs when applicable.

MFA in Theatre Arts required. Successful candidates should have demonstrated skills and abilities in scenography, lighting design, and or scenic charge on the professional level. Higher education teaching experience or the ability to demonstrate potential teaching effectiveness is greatly preferred.

We seek a scholar/artist who will integrate into our practical and experiential program with a positive attitude and good communication skills. Candidates for the position should demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and a willingness to engage students in scholarship and creative work both in and out of the classroom.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • M.F.A degree required with emphasis in theatre design, scenic design, or design & technology.
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities in teaching set design, lighting design, and scenic painting
  • Additional skills and experience in directing, other fields of design, and stage management are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 years of college/university teaching experience is preferred
Major Responsibilities/Duties

The successful candidate will teach courses in set design, lighting design, and scenography, and an additional offering depending on proficiency. Candidates for the position must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and a willingness to engage students in scholarship and creative work both in and out of the classroom. Faculty members at Snow College are expected to participate in recruitment, faculty governance, student advising, and in other ways to demonstrate support for the mission of the institution. A positive attitude is paramount. The Snow College Theatre Department is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST).
  • Set design two productions for the Snow College Theatre Department Mainstage.
  • Lighting design two productions for the Snow College Theatre Department Mainstage.
  • Supervision of other designs (stock shows, rentals, and outside designer work)
  • Advising and oversight of student designs.
  • Scenic charge responsibilities.
  • Oversee all aspects of set/lights for technical rehearsals, performance, and strike.
