Job Description

The Parking Dispatcher reports to the Administrative Coordinator in Parking Services and is responsible for dispatching information to Parking Enforcement Officers in a professional, clear, and concise manner. This communication is completed by utilizing a two-way radio. This position is also responsible for researching parking, DMV, and university databases to verify affiliation information, accurately entering data into the Parking Management System for all data collected from the issuance of over 50,000 parking citations, and the registration of vehicles for parking permits. The incumbent needs to be able to provide excellent customer service and parking support to a diverse group of customers, including staff/faculty, students, and visitors of the Virginia Tech campus.

Additional duties for the Parking Dispatcher role include:

  • Running various reports, including the unassigned parking citations.
  • Processing and reconciling permits purchased online.
  • Serving as the secondary phone receptionist.
  • Assist with answering parking services emails and bikes.
  • Other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong data entry skills with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Previous experience providing customer service both on the phone and in person in a
high-volume setting.
  • Experience working with and explaining complex rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Experience reconciling accounts and/or reports.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with office software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience working with database systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with a diverse group
of customers.
  • Ability to communicate clearly on two-way radio and telephone.
  • Ability to learn quickly and comprehensively.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion tasks, sit, and stand for a long time.
  • Ability to understand and interpret policies and procedures related to Parking Services.
  • Position requires the ability to move and handle up to 30 lbs.
  • The ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends, and special events as needed. Daily work
schedule may vary based on business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Virginia Tech Campus.
  • Working knowledge of the University's parking rules and regulations.
  • Experience as a dispatcher in a high-volume environment.
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Knowledge of University Banner System.
  • Previous experience working in higher education or a similar environment.
