Job Summary

The Assistant to the Dean for Special Programs serves the College of Arts & Sciences by coordinating and administering the College Credit Plus program and assisting with on-campus academic programs. The Assistant to the Dean for Special Programs serves as the College Transition Coordinator, coordinates the associated mentoring program and is the instructor for the study skills and principles of peer mentoring courses. In addition, the Assistant to the Dean for Special Programs provides support to the college in the area of student support services including academic advising, meeting with prospective students and families, and addressing general questions.

Scope

Assist the Dean of Arts and Sciences by coordinating the College Credit Plus program and assisting with student services within the college.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Oversee, coordinate and further develop the College Credit Plus program
  • Oversee the budget for College Credit Plus
  • Oversee and coordinate the College Transition Program
  • Oversee, coordinate, and further develop Arts & Sciences peer mentoring program
  • Teach Study Skills and Principles of Peer Mentoring courses
  • Assist with academic student services in the college including advising and academic improvement
  • Meet with prospective students and families
  • Help handle student issues in the A&S Dean's office
  • Assist with college articulation agreements
  • Advise the A&S Student Advisory Board
  • Participate in general office function, including but not limited to: processing forms, conversing with parents and students, coordinating calls from individuals, and completing required paperwork
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to promote and sustain positive collaborations between the university and local schools
  • Ability to establish and carry out policies, procedures, and precedents and to devise new approaches to address highly intricate and technically complex challenges
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with area high schools and to engage in complex and formal negotiations
  • Sttrong writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to convert technical data to formal reports
  • Ability to manage and track budgets
  • Ability to attend to details and be task-oriented
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Two to three years of similar work experience
  • Experience teaching high school or working in an educational setting
  • Experience developing educational partnerships
