The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) seeks a qualified and motivated Grants and Contracts Manager to work with faculty and administration to develop pre-award research proposals and budgets, and to perform post-award administration as necessary. This position reports to the CALS Research Administration office but may be embedded in college units. This position is responsible for coordinating the development of all research pre-award functions and partnering with faculty, unit staff and administration, college staff and administration, and university research partners.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates and works closely with centralized sponsored program administration in performance of tasks.
  • Consolidates, writes or rewrites proposal input; develops proposal documents with faculty and staff with emphasis on sponsor identification and budget preparation; interprets sponsoring agency guidelines to ensure compliance with all sponsor, state and university requirements.
  • Reviews pre-award documents for compliance with policies; analyzes terms and conditions of pre-award.
  • Prepares regular and complex special reports, forms or studies for sponsor and department or university; utilizes past reports, the university accounting system and other resources.
  • Advises and counsels faculty and staff regarding procedures, pertinent developments, account status or alternatives for various sponsored programs.
  • Plans, arranges and participates in workshops and seminars to promote participation in the proposal process.
  • Coordinates and disseminates information to faculty and staff on potential research opportunities and funding sources.

  • Thorough knowledge of all job functions and broad industry best practices, techniques and standards.
  • Exhibits ability to transfer knowledge and application of complex principles, theories, and concepts to peers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration or related field AND eight years directly related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with processing high volume, high value grants.
  • Professional certification
