SUMMARY: Coordinates the preservation of the Libraries' physical collections, using specialized tools and processes to repair damaged items and protect fragile materials. This position reports to the Collection Management and Discovery Services Librarian and consults with the CMDS Librarian on interpretation and revision of departmental policies and procedures. Position also consults with the Special Collections Librarian regarding specific preservation needs of special collection and archival materials in the library.
ESSENTIAL DEPARTMENTAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assesses the preservation needs of library materials for both the circulating collections and non-circulating special collections
Makes decisions about the most feasible and economical preservation measures to apply to individual items. Applies preservation and preparation measures to individual items
Performs basic repairs on circulating materials or prepares the material for a commercial binder. May provide library staff with training related to repair and preservation
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; 3-5 years of experience related to the preservation and conservation of print materials; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
