Lab Technician (Thompson Lab)
The Thompson laboratory in the School of Neuroscience at Virginia Tech is looking for a part-time laboratory technician who can independently oversee research activities within the laboratory. This position supports projects focused on the effects of changes in thyroid hormone signaling on brain development in Xenopus laevis tadpoles. This position is a research position that is expected to function with relative independence and responsibility as well as report directly to the laboratory director Dr. Chris Thompson. The lab technician will be involved in many aspects of experiments and is expected to achieve independence very quickly. .
- Experience in the use of animals in research, especially with animal handling and principles of anesthesia;
- Experience with histology in neural tissues, RNA processing and analysis;
- Experience using a microscope such as confocal imaging.
- BS (or the pursuit thereof) or equivalent in Neuroscience, Biology, Chemistry, or a related discipline;
- Basic knowledge of molecular neuroscience and a fundamental understanding of standard laboratory equipment ranging from centrifuges to PCR;
- Experience with aquatic animals, transfection of plasmid DNA into vertebrate cells, and live animal imaging.
