Adventure WV with West Virginia University is seeking applications for aMarketing Strategist--Office of Student Wellness - Hybrid position.

About the Opportunity

The Marketing Strategist for the Office of Student Wellness is responsible for the promotion and reputation of the departments within the Office of Student Wellness, with a large focus on the nationally-recognized Adventure WV and Campus Recreation programs. They are responsible for the development and implementation of unique and cutting edge marketing plans and tactics to support the brand, goals, and enrollment of the Adventure WV and Campus Recreation programs. They will also provide periodic support and assistance in marketing and promotion to the WellWVU and Collegiate Recovery programs. This position will take initiative primarily from the Director of Adventure WV and Director of Campus Recreation, with additional direction from the Executive Director of the Office of Student Wellness. Following University Relations guidelines, the position is responsible for managing the development of printed materials, websites, social media, advertisements, online marketing, event promotion, and any other programs that help promote a positive image for the Office of Student Wellness. The position will be responsible for the hiring and management of a Graduate Assistant and team of student staff members to accomplish the tasks associated with the position. The position is part of the Office of Student Wellness professional team and is expected to assist with priority projects on an as-needed basis. This position is listed as hybrid, meaning the Strategist will work remotely and in-person, depending on the particular needs of the day/week.

What you'll do:

Duties and Responsibilities All duties and responsibilities are primarily serving Adventure WV and Campus Recreation. Additional support for other areas of the Office of Student Wellness, Student Life, and other areas of WVU may be requested.

Marketing Strategy & Assessment

  • Ensure all communications reflect the university's mission, values, goals, and brand
  • Monitor trends in marketing to help strategize, innovate, and evolve
  • Foster partnerships and relationships with on- and off-campus organizations.
  • Establish benchmarks to determine metrics and ROI for improvement and effectiveness of marketing tactics.
  • Determine and implement methods to accurately and regularly assess the effectiveness of tactics put into place, adjust as necessary
  • Report regularly on key marketing initiatives, including reporting on operating budgets and preparation of financial reports.
  • Coordinate needed third party purchasing, software licensing, and printing entities

Partnership with University Relations & Enrollment Management

  • Serve as the primary liaison between OSW and the UREM team at WVU. Foster positive working relationships with key UREM staff, co-collaborating on projects and initiatives as needed. Meets regularly with the Director of University Relations (or appointee) to coordinate OSW marketing efforts with UREM.
  • Support, strengthen, and extend the WVU brand and clearly articulate the University's mission, goals and identify through the look, feel and tone of the material created. Work with Brand & Trademark Licensing on all relevant materials and products.
  • Attend relevant meetings/events such as Key Communicators, Key Recruiters, Health Communicators, etc.
  • Ensure all materials are properly reviewed/approved by UREM and fit within university branding guidelines.

Marketing Plans, Deliverables and Management

  • Develop and execute strategic marking plans to support recruitment/enrollment/attendance goals for OSW, under the direction of the relevant Director and other staff, and in coordination with University Relations and Enrollment Management.
  • Serve as the main project manager for assigned initiatives and oversee the development of print, digital, social media, and other deliverables.
  • Create written communications and collaborate with the relevant Director and UR for the dissemination of these communications.
  • Actively represent OSW in meetings, project teams, open houses, and other recruitment events
  • As needed, travel and attend events to capture necessary media
  • Manage the social media presence of OSW. Collaborate with UREM social media team, as needed.
  • Create content-written copy, graphics, photography, videos-for various platforms
  • Serve as primary manager of AWV and CR websites.

Student Staff Recruitment & Supervision

  • The Marketing & Communications strategist may choose to work with a small number or a team of student staff to assist in the delivery of plans and deliverables.
  • The Marketing & Communications Strategist recruits, hires, trains, and supervises these student staff. Staffing expenses must stay within the budget, as set by the Directors of Adventure WV and Campus Recreation. Staff may include graphic designers, photographers, videographers, interns, web designers, and other specialties.
  • The Marking & Communications strategies recruits, hires, trains, and supervises a Graduate Assistant.

Priority Projects & Other Duties

  • OSW support general WVU and Student Life initiatives, such as Welcome Week. The Marketing Strategist is expected to assist as requested with these events.
  • Attend staff meetings and other meetings as requested


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing or related field or equivalent.
  • A minimum of one (2) years of related experience required (Graduate Assistantships may count toward professional experience). Any equivalent combination of education and expierence that meets these requirements is also acceptable.
  • Demonstrated excellence of all popular marketing platforms.
  • Demonstrated excellence in marketing trends, with a demonstrated ability to analyze media trends and create strategic media plans accordingly.
  • Demonstrated experience in marketing goal development, tracking and analytics.
  • Experience in organization of tasks with a team.
  • Experience in developing and executing multichannel communications and marketing plans.
  • Experience in clearly articulating (written and verbal) strategies and plans to achieve goals.
  • Experience in developing written communications.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Self-starter, can lead independently and proactively.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to adhere to WVU branding guidelines.
  • Ability to keep up with changing technology as it impacts marketing and make necessary changes.
  • Supervise Student Staff andGraduate Assistants.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience in graphic design, photography, videography, and website management Experience in staff management
  • Experience in a university environment, preferably within Campus Recreation, outdoor programs, or Student Life
  • Experience with sports and adventure media
