West Virginia University's Extension Serviceis currently accepting applications for a Temporary Campus Service Worker.

This position, located at Jackson's Mill in Weston WV, will clean, and maintain buildings, grounds, and facilities (including offices, classrooms, private and dormitory housing, meeting rooms, public areas, and walkways) adhering to established procedures, all safety regulations and proper disinfecting techniques to ensure a safe and pleasant environment.

What you'll do:

  • Clean and disinfect hallways, stairs, porches, meeting rooms, private rooms, offices, and related fixtures using brooms, vacuum, mops, rags and brushes.
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms and all bathroom fixtures.
  • Replenish bathroom supplies including toilet tissue, towels, and soap.
  • Wash and clean walls, ceilings, doors, windows, radiators, and ventilators.
  • Vacuum and shampoo carpet, rugs, and upholstery
  • Dust and polish furniture, desks, tabletops, file cabinets, bookcases, and related woodwork.
  • Mix, dilute and use commercial strength disinfectants, germicidal detergents and other stringent cleaning solutions following established safety procedures. Calculate area to determine amount needed.
  • Clean registration office daily and administration and public offices weekly.
  • Distribute, return, and count dirty linens for cottages.
  • Remove, wash, and hang curtains and draperies.
  • Put soiled linens out for pick up and/or wash and dry them in commercial machines.
  • Deliver and receive requisitioned custodial supplies.
  • Unload and store supplies.
  • Rotate stock and note when supplies are low by informing supervisor.
  • Empty and clean waste receptacles
  • Provide support with any operation or need to maintain the smooth functioning of the center.
  • Make decisions concerning operations, requests, and emergencies in the absence of immediate supervisor, other supervisors and director.
  • Attend training and professional development as needed.
  • Transport trash and waste to disposal area.
  • Clean area around disposal site.
  • Sweep and remove water and debris from sidewalk, steps, and entryways.
  • Lock and unlock buildings, offices, classrooms, and meeting rooms as directed by supervisor.
  • Notify supervisor of equipment and facilities needing repair or replacement.Notify supervisor of potential safety/fire violations.
  • Perform light maintenance work such as replacing accessible light bulbs, changing filters, using plunger to unstop drains, sinks and toilets.

  • High School Diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Up to 6 months experience in the following areas: - proper commercial cleaning procedures such as mixing chemical for disinfecting purposes and use of floor maintenance equipment.
  • Inventory procedures for stocking supplies. Light maintenance of sinks, drains, faucets, changing light bulbs, etc.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures and practices.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Read and write English
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Ability to communicate and work in cooperation with others in a courteous, civil and respectful manner.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and neat appearance.


  • Valid driver's license
  • High level of hand/eye coordination to operate commercial cleaning equipment.
  • Long periods of standing and walking.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work on ladders.
  • Exposure to dust, fumes and chemicals used for cleaning solutions.
  • Ability to work in variation in indoor temperature and outdoor weather conditions.
