Summary

Student learning is the primary responsibility of WGU faculty members. A Course Instructor demonstrates expertise in teaching and mentoring best practices and disseminates those practices to other mentors. In addition to performing the essential primary responsibilities of a Course Instructor I, they perform additional organization-level and operational functions which enable mentors on their team or college to meet and exceed student success goals. A Course Instructor II is a subject matter expert with a proven record of accomplishment in student engagement and success in their assigned courses, whether at WGU or thorough previous experience. This individual accurately assesses student needs and varies the type, length, and intensity of instructional method to meet those needs. A Course Instructor II acts as a resource for other Mentors to troubleshoot or strategize methods to improve student outcomes. Course Instructors work on a team to support a complex portfolio and offer specialized instruction on challenging topics. As part of this team, a Course Instructor helps lead new initiatives and projects. This individual will work closely with all levels of WGU leadership and stakeholders on continuous improvement strategies. Using technology, a Course Instructor II interacts with students in groups and one-on-one settings. As part of WGU's disaggregated faculty model, a Course Instructor II provides expertise and collaborates with the faculty who are responsible for developing and evaluating courses and assessments.

Job Profile Summary:

As part of WGU's disaggregated faculty model,Instructors provide their expertise and collaborate with the faculty who are responsible for developing and evaluating courses and assessments.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a steward for carrying out WGU's mission and strategic vision.
  • Provides expertise in assigned content area and maintains current knowledge intheir field.
  • Fosters student learning through innovative teaching practices.
  • Responds with urgency to meet student needs and communicates professionally and respectfully with students and all other members of the WGU community.
  • Offers proactive support and outreach to assigned students.
  • Uses technology-based teaching and communication platforms to aid students in the development of competencies.
  • Collaborates with other professionals within the university to promote a positive, student-obsessed atmosphere.
  • Participatesinand/or leads trainingactivities.
  • Responds with urgency to changing requirements, priorities, and short deadlines.
  • Consistently exhibits WGU Leadership Principles.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorateor terminal degree in business related area required
  • 3+ years of relevant professional business/management experience.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expert in job-relevant content or practice area.
  • Minimum of3years experienceproviding student support and instruction.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience of teaching in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with at-risk learners.
  • State and/or federal legislative requirements and/or college accreditation requirements may apply in order to maintain the necessary credentialing for this role.
  • Works primarily from home within the continental United States and is available to travel to meetings as required.
  • Ability to work a student-friendly schedule Tuesday- Saturdayincluding evenings/weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supply Chain and Logistics experience highly preferred
  • Strong experience with distance education and distance learning students is preferred.
