Program Coordinator, McNair Scholars

Oversee all aspects of the McNair Scholars Program, including program design and implementation, strategic planning and assessment, McNair Scholar recruitment and support, staff supervision and development, budget management, grant preparation, and federal reporting requirements. This role will design, implement, supervise, and monitor program activities and outcomes in accordance with federal regulations and program objectives. Additionally, it will collaborate with TRIO program staff, the Office of Undergraduate Research, and University faculty partners. It will serve as the lead student advisor and has a strong interest in research and scholarship. This is a grant-funded; 11 month position.

  1. Plan and supervise student program activities.
  2. Attend meetings, training classes and workshops.
  3. Plan and supervise summer research internships.
  4. Serve as advocate for students in the program.
  5. Plan and supervise office programming.
  6. Coordinate orientation and meetings for students and faculty mentors.
  7. Follow-up with program alumni.
  8. Recruit and select students for the program.
  9. Oversee orientation and training for staff and student assistants.
  10. Inform administration and the campus community of program activities.
  11. Prepare various reports for the university.
  12. Prepare federal reports.
  13. Monitor and coordinate budgets.
  14. Related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of student development and theory, student programming, and higher education procedures;
  • Knowledge of federal guidelines, regulations, and legislation;
  • Effective verbal and written skills;
  • Budget management skills;
  • Knowledge of research trends, opportunities, and funding including grant development/renewal;
  • Knowledge of graduate study requirements, processes, and funding opportunities;
  • Knowledge of technical advantages to assist in reporting, tracking, and communicating.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree required. Doctorate’s degree preferred.
  • 5 years of related experience.
