The Physician Assistant Program Director directly reports to the Dean of the School of Health and Service Professions. This position requires an innovative and dedicated individual to develop and oversee all aspects of the evolving P.A. program. The individual will work closely with university administration to create and implement the program's strategic plan; create, document, and assess educational outcome measures that will ensure progress culminating in the successful completion of the application for provisional accreditation with the ARC-PA. This is a full-time position with salary and competitive benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • An ability to build a shared vision that promotes academic excellence through inspirational leadership and exceptional management skills.
  • Providing leadership in all areas relating to the P.A. Program.
  • An ability to cultivate a community of learning energized by collaborative work among students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • An understanding of current and emerging issues in P.A. education and accreditation.
  • An appreciation of and commitment to shared governance, including open and transparent communication.
  • Providing leadership for curricular development and transformation in partnership with the faculty.
  • Experience in working collegially with diverse internal and external constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to nurturing an environment that values and manifests diversity, equity, internationalization, free expression, academic freedom, personal integrity, mutual respect, and inclusive excellence at all levels.
  • Collaboration with University Senior Administration, the medical director, faculty, and staff in the developing P.A. program activities.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for the program:
    • Organization
    • Administration
    • Fiscal management
    • Continuous review and analysis
    • Planning
    • Development
    • Academic planning includes Didactic and Clinical curricula as they relate to program development.
  • Liaise with appropriate offices and departments in medical/health education and external agencies applicable to the developing P.A. Program.
  • Develop the self-study process.
  • Develop learning strategies consistent with the Mission and Goals of the evolving program
  • Work within the institution to create the admissions process.
  • Advise on recruitment and marketing strategies.
  • Assist the Dean in the development of program information materials.
  • Provide guidance and direction in the selection of program staff and faculty.

Other preferred qualifications include:

  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) (P.A. Emeritus is accepted).
  • A doctorate in an appropriate field of health/medical education preferred.
  • A master’s degree in Physician Assistant/Associate Studies is required.
  • A minimum of five years of classroom experience and prior progressive education responsibilities in administration/training is required.
  • Five to ten years of experience planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating an accredited P.A. program.
  • The individual must understand future trends in health professions education, research, and practice.
  • The individual must be sensitive to the needs of faculty, students, and staff and must have the ability to be an articulate spokesperson for Tarleton State University on a local, state, and national level.
  • The applicant will have at least three years of healthcare experience.
