This position reports to the Director of University Recreation & Kress Events Center Operations and manages a comprehensive recreation program including the overall operations of intramural sports, sport clubs, informal recreation, and aquatics.  Oversees and performs activities including policy development and enforcement, program development and expansion, participant eligibility, and/or risk management.

This position must work closely within University Recreation (UREC), the Division of University Inclusivity & Student Affairs as well as with the UW-Green Bay community in support of the missions of the UREC, Division and University, while working to create a safe and inclusive environment for all students.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate, schedule and manage comprehensive intramural leagues and tournament, sport club opportunities, and aquatics facility schedules, programs and events while also maximizing facility spaces for open/informal recreation opportunities for students/members.
  • Develop, update and revise policy handbooks/manuals for program areas.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Engagement as an advocate for Sport Clubs in following campus student organization guidelines, protocols, travel, and budget.
  • Serve as a liaison for several Sport Club organizations providing leadership and mentorship to club officials, coaches, and participants.
  • Assess the effectiveness of current program offerings and explore, develop, and implement innovative new program and/or service opportunities to remain current with industry-wide trends while meeting the demand of students and members.
  • Coordinate, manage and administer all aspects of the private swim lessons program and registration.
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, supervise, mentor, lead and evaluate approximately 50+ student staff for intramurals (supervisors, officials, trainers, and scorekeepers) and aquatics (lifeguards and swim instructors) promoting an inclusive environment.
  • Develop and conduct official’s clinics teaching proper mechanics based on National Federation, NIRSA, and WIAA sport rules.
  • Enforce policies, procedures, and participant eligibility for intramural and sport club opportunities including addressing discipline/sportsmanship issues, ejections, appeals, and game protests.
  • Manage different software used for program registration, member management, facility use, program participation and assessment (i.e. Fusion, IM Leagues, EMS).
  • Co-coordinate and instruct CPR, First-Aid and AED class offerings for UREC staff as well as the supervision of the UREC Emergency Response Team and Red Shirt Review Drills.
  • Maintain all pool records, lifeguard certifications, and safety equipment to ensure state and local regulations are met.
  • Develop, maintain and enforce standards of safety and risk management protocols for respective programs.
  • Assist in development of the program budgets including program revenues and expenses.
  • Maintain inventory of intramural and sport club equipment and uniforms.
  • Assist with summer sport camp support, oversight, and documentation.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Sport Management, Physical Education, Exercise Science or closely related field
  • 2 years of experience working in collegiate intramurals or related non-collegiate sports field; undergraduate experience working in intramurals or serving as a sport club officer is acceptable
  • Prior supervisory and training experience
  • Officiating experience in a variety of sports activities (or correlating sport): basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, and softball/baseball
  • Current CPR / AED / First Aid certification required; or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire


  • Earned or progress towards Master's Degree in Recreation, Sports Management or closely related field
  • Graduate or professional supervisory experience in intramurals, sport clubs or aquatics
  • Certified officiating experience with state/local association(s)
  • Experience with staff and program assessment and evaluation
  • Experience with IMLeagues, Innosoft Fusion, and Enterprise EMS (Event Management Systems) or like intramural and scheduling software experience
  • Prior use of social media technologies for promotion and marketing of recreational programs
  • Ability to teach and lead with a philosophy placing a strong emphasis on student development
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor Certification
  • Certified American Red Cross Lifeguard or comparable

Position requires a non-traditional work schedule that includes evenings and occasional weekend hours to meet the needs of the program area.  Recreation, intramural and sport club activities often occur in outdoor environments and various weather conditions. 

Position is a full-time Academic Staff appointment. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
