Position Highlights

Working with members of the ENGR-IT, the Systems Administrator II position will identify systems requirements from College of Engineering staff, developers, and users. Then optimize existing computing resources or architect solutions to meet those requirements. Help expand IT services and integrate with other high performance computing infrastructures to implement timely solutions to our users.

The selected candidate will have the option of a hybrid schedule, where a specified number of hours are completed on campus and a specified number of hours are completed from home or another off-site location.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Full lifecycle management of the College's Linux and Windows systems. System's requirement gathering,system acquisition, installation, provisioning, monitoring and finally surplusing the server.
  • Monitor environment for hardware errors, security anomalies and threats that may cause system outages and initiate corrective action.
  • Develop and improve monitoring systems for key computing resources. Coordinate with the university on our participation in enterprise projects. Maintain a current knowledge of IT technologies and strategies. Work on storage infrastructure and the disaster recovery plan, testing and implementation. Bi-annual archives of college data to be stored in specified University provided facilities.
  • Provide analysis, design, development, installation, implementation,testing, maintenance, and administration of IT applications and hardware in response to user requests andrequirements. This may include recommendations for database providers, database schema design, webdelivery platforms, or application frameworks. Willing to learn new technologies and techniques in order to provide the required services.
  • Maintain computer software and hardware licensing, warranty, and vendor service agreements. Knowledge of modern virtualization techniques from containerization to expanding workloads intothird party cloud providers.
  • Knowledge of modern devop environments using tools like Puppet, Chef, or Ansible. Knowledge of Microsoft product offerings a plus. Design, develop, and test objects in a dev ops environment. Experience using modernsource control tools such as git or svn.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with:

  • Linux: 3-5 years
  • Windows: 1-2 years
  • Networking basics: 2-4 years
  • Storage: 1-3 years

Familiarity with:

  • Modern dev/ops practices
  • Configuration management
  • Security monitoring
  • Web frameworks
