As the Fire and Emergency Medical Services Program Specialist 2 you will be an integral part of dynamic programming at Pierce College that is making a difference in the lives of others.

Under the direction of the Dean of Health and Technology and to ensure equitable access and success, the Fire and Emergency Medical Services Program Specialist is responsible for the operation and administrative duties for the Fire Services Leadership & Management (FSLM) Program and the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program. Often the first point of contact for prospective students, current students, and community partners, the Program Specialist is culturally affirming and advances the institution’s commitment to racial equity. The Program Specialist is a liaison to program participants and community members regarding program admission and program policies, procedures and practices. Included in this work is monitoring and reporting needs for the applied business and construction management programs. As the Program Specialist, the successful candidate will provide effective case management to FSLM and EMS students to support their progress on their educational pathway. This includes providing equitable access, referrals, and support, and managing the data required for student and accreditation progress and reporting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Institutional and Program Core:
  • Actively support, engage in, and work to advance Pierce College's goals for equity and inclusion in order to provide access and support for our diverse community of learners. Contribute to an engaged and supportive team with shared accountability for the equitable success of students and the programs.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission, goals, and objectives of the college.
Program Support:
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and administration of an equitable system for supporting prospective/new and current Fire Service Leadership and Management and Emergency Medical Technician students.
  • Demonstrate cultural humility and vulnerability in interactions (emails/post, phone, and in- person) with students and their families, as well as, employees and the community in order to advance an inclusive environment.
  • Serve as the business pathways student admission navigator, connecting student to their advisor and college resources for holistic student supports in a manner that is culturally responsive, particularly for marginalized students.
  • Actively identify barriers associated with placing students for work-based learning experiences; work collaboratively to identify and implement solutions.
  • Work with Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee and EMS students identifying challenges in their programs and direct information to the Program Chair and Program Manager for follow- up.
  • Manage an equitable BAS application review process; prepare and maintain student applications and database; facilitate correspondence with students regarding placement. Manage and develop the EMT course schedule, Washington State Department of Health course paperwork, course completion paperwork, and assist in certification testing.
Program Liaison:
  • Actively advocate for students in line with Pierce College’s commitment to equitable and antiracist supports and access to opportunity.
  • Regularly maintain the accuracy and currency of accreditation and student data tracking systems for the Fire Service Leadership and Management and Emergency Medical Technician programs.
  • Coordinate program-developed special projects that support equitable student access and progress.
  • Coordinate the Fire and Emergency Service Higher Education paperwork, relationship and changes in recognition requirements.
  • Coordinate the daily office operations; and in absence of the Program Chair, FSLM program activities.
  • Coordinate copying and printing requirements for the programs. Order supplies, equipment, printing, and arrange for facility and equipment maintenance and repair contracts and services. Monitor program budgets. Distribute and categorize mail.
  • Conduct or respond to surveys and studies; as needed compose narrative portions of program communications.
Outreach:
  • In collaboration with Equity, Diversity, Inclusions – College Access, Retention and Engagement Services (EDI CARES), seek opportunities to increase recruitment and equitable support of students from marginalized communities.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of EMT/FSLM BAS orientation meetings and information recruitment sessions.
  • Provide administrative support in building and maintaining relationships with community partners.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
Required Experience:
  • Experience working with and supporting a diverse student population.
Special Requirements:
  • Cleared portable background check through DEL Proficiency in MS Office (excel, word, etc.)
  • Ability to travel between campuses, to local businesses, and to conferences

Terms of Employment:

This position is a full-time, classified, position with an official duty station located at the Pierce College Fort Steilacoom campus. Frequent travel to Pierce College campuses or other sites will occur.

Standard work hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required. This position may be subject to reassignment between campuses or sites.

Salary & Benefits:

Starting salary range for this position is between $3,294 - $3,792 per month. However, your paycheck is just part of the total compensation package. There is an outstanding benefits package which is worth an additional value equivalent to about 30% of your salary. Physical Work Environment:

This position works indoors in an office environment which requires visual concentration on detail, dexterity and precision. This position experiences frequent interruptions with occasionally distraught people. During this time, core staff approved by their supervisors to come onto campus are covered by a safety plan that follows social distancing and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protocols. This includes minimizing close contact by limiting time on campus; conducting meetings virtually; and implementing other creative strategies to reduce the density of employees on campus to keep everyone safe.
