Position Announcement

Provides professional management accounting and administrative services for the Utah Tech University Athletic Department. Responsible for all Athletic Department fiscal matters on a day-to-day basis, and provides fiscal management, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance.   • Manage financial matters in the Department of Athletics to ensure compliance with University, Western Athletic Conference, and NCAA policies. This includes:
    • Reconciling and monitoring all accounts and transactions to ensure department is operating within policy and budget constraints;
    • Provide, prepare, and review monthly budget reports with coaches and staff. Prepare ad hoc financial reports, as requested by the Athletic Director;
    • Approve all purchase orders, travel authorizations, and travel claims in a timely manner;
    • Sign-off on monthly reconciliation of all department purchasing cards, with coordinated reconciliation with the Athletics Support Specialist;
    • Supervise billing and collecting of all department accounts receivable, including those for advertising and sponsorship sales;
    • Ensure all Athletic cash handling activities are PCI compliant.
  • Assist and advise coaches and staff in discharging their financial responsibilities, within fiscal policy constraints.
  • Act as liaison with various entities on campus, including VP of Administrative Affairs, Executive Directors of Business Services, Planning & Budget, and Human Resources, as well as others within the University's Administrative Affairs division.
  • Work closely with the university's Accounting department to prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including NCAA annual report, yearly NCAA audit, and other required reports (EADA, etc.).
  • Work with Athletic Compliance Office to ensure all purchases and travel by coaches and staff is permissible per NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Oversee Athletic part-time personnel recruiting and hiring, in conjunction with the University's Human Resources (HR) office, and act as the primary contact between Athletics and HR regarding part-time hiring. This involves executing the hiring process for all part-time Athletic workers, including student employees, and overseeing hiring of temporary staff for all Athletic camps.
  • Supervise all aspects of team athletic equipment and inventory, along with department apparel contract.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • At least four (4) years' accounting/business management-related experience required; experience working in an intercollegiate athletics setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill in quantitative financial analysis and budgetary control.
  • Advanced analytical, evaluative, objective critical thinking and problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to compile and prepare complex and detailed financial and budgetary analyses and reports, using spreadsheets and information from data warehouses. Must be able to interpret data for management use.
  • Good computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office suite, and ability to learn new programs required. Experience using Banner and/or other higher education financial systems preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Background in Athletic personnel management preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations preferred.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $60,000 - $70,000 depending on qualifications & experience. Desired start date of July 1, 2022.
