Position Highlights
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Arizona is seeking applicants for a full-time Career-Track Assistant Professor of Practice to teach foundational and advanced Biochemistry topics to undergraduate students with science majors, many of whom are interested in the health professions and/or graduate school. Additional courses in the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department curriculum may also be taught by them as the need arises. In addition to teaching, they will contribute to the department through service and outreach. This is an academic year (9-month) position at 1.0 FTE.

Duties & Responsibilities
The workload distribution for this position will be 80%
teaching and 20% departmental service and outreach, and the candidate will be
responsible for teaching four courses per academic year.
The successful applicant will:
- Be primarily responsible for teaching in-person and online courses
- Participate in course development and evidence-based pedagogy
- Use active-learning methodologies in the classroom and engage online students using interactive strategies and platforms
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in person and/or by video conferencing
- Provide additional instructional support as needed
- Supervise an instructional team of graduate and undergraduate learning assistants to promote student engagement, assessment, and understanding
- Work with UArizona's learning-management system, D2L/Brightspace
- Attend and constructively contribute to pertinent program staff and faculty meetings
- Contribute to governance through service and/or outreach at the department and college level
- Demonstrate excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level
- Demonstrate organizational skills, including the ability to plan, prioritize and
successfully manage deadlines - Effectively
communicate with individuals at all organizational levels - Effectively
support students, including those in distress - Demonstrate
understanding and skill in teaching approaches that promote success for students
from diverse backgrounds - Data
management skills to track student progress and evaluations
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D.
in Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline - Scientific
knowledge in all areas of chemistry and biology that are foundational to
the teaching of undergraduate biochemistry majors - Three years of university/college teaching
experience is required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching undergraduates at the upper division level
