West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a Nurse Clinician Educator in the Department of Medicine

About the Opportunity

Responsible for comprehensive patient care for the WVU Positive Health Clinic (PHC) including: medical case management services, health education, coordination of patient care, referrals, and coordinated and comprehensive patient care for HIV/AIDS patients in the Physician Office Center (POC) and Satellite sites. Provides assessment and nursing intervention under medical direction.

What you'll do:

  • Provides coordinated, comprehensive patient care and nursing intervention under medicaldirection
  • Be present during clinic hours and ensures each patient visit is complete involving visits with the comprehensive patient care team (ID Physician/Fellows, Care Navigator/MedicalCase Manager, Psychiatrist, and all Nursing Staff
  • Document all patient encounters in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Assists with reviewing & presenting patients at the weekly Multi-Disciplinary Patient CareConference (PCC) as needed. This conference is to discuss all of the clinical aspects of eachPatient in the program. The PCC review and presentation include the following:
    • Reviews all Physician notes from clinic visit via the Electronic Medical Record
    • Documents recommended actions and implements where appropriate
    • Obtains information regarding Ryan White patients with emergency room visits or hospital admissions
  • Triage Nurse contact for all patient telephone calls, electronic messages and follow up postclinic
  • Travels to and assists with coordination of care at satellite sites (quarterly). Assists staffwith offsite adherence and education of patients
  • Participates in monthly patient care conferences with Shenandoah Community Health as aclinical liaison as needed
  • Assists in scheduling appointments, ordering labs and diagnostic testing for patients under Medical Direction
  • Provides one-on-one health education to patients and their families & documents in theElectronic Medical Record
  • Responsible for completing data entry into CareWare
  • Maintain personal skill levels within specific areas of expertise by attending appropriateeducational courses, programs, and conferences related to HIV
  • Maintains CE requirements for Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of WestVirginia and completes The National HIV Curriculum
  • Responsible for internal Sub-specialty Referral tracking
  • Participates in Outreach and Prevention activities
  • Assists with enrolling patients with the PHC contracted 340B Pharmacy, Coordinated CareNetwork (CCN)
  • Responsible for assisting with policy and procedure updates for PHC specific needs
  • Responsible for assisting with development of standard clinical protocols
  • Assist in grant management activities including site visit preparation
  • Responsible for assisting with data entry into CareWare for completion of annual federal reports required by the granting agency
  • Participates as a key member of the Continuous Quality Management (CQM) team by assisting with the ongoing CQM needs for the PHC, with incorporation of HRSA quality indicators.
  • Responsible for assisting with WV State funded Prevention for Positives Intervention
  • Primarily responsible for completing chart review and collection of patient data for manual entry into software program (CareWare) and assisting with the EPIC Ryan White Module

  • Completion of a RN or BSN program
  • One (1) year of Inpatient or Outpatient patient care experience required
  • Provision of nursing care and/or medical case management for HIV infected patients preferred
  • HIV/AIDS training, CAREWare training, and EMR training will be provided to the chosen candidate


  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of WV
  • Following 2 years of employment/experience with the WVU PHC, be able to obtain certification as an HIV/AIDS Certified Registered Nurse (ACRN) through the HIV/AIDS Nursing Certification Board (HANCB)
