JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Teaching and Learning will serve as the college’s leader for organizing and delivering college-wide professional development to all faculty (regular faculty, adjunct faculty and HS concurrent instructors) on instructional strategies and pedagogy. This position will facilitate and plan the delivery of professional development on assigned college professional days for faculty. Oversee the revisions and implementation of the Quality Faculty Plan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Leader of learning opportunities for faculty (regular, adjunct and HS concurrent). Research, curate, design and deliver robust training and development to faculty on topics related to student engagement, retention, service learning and instructional strategies though a combination of delivery modalities. Encourage knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with other cultures or backgrounds. This includes but is not limited to faculty orientation, mentoring opportunities, faculty development activities, NACEP compliance, and related faculty development services.

  • Serve as the designated learning expert. Study and provide teaching and learning strategies and current trends for faculty. Develop and promote a resource bank/clearinghouse in the area of teaching and learning. Network with other higher education institutions, comparing and benchmarking the learning and development opportunities/resources offered by DMACC with the goal of attaining best practice. Consult with HR and other academic leaders in the development of faculty improvement plans.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with academic leaders and faculty to develop and implement a personalized learning profile that supports learning through the faculty/adjunct career cycle. Assess, monitor, and recommend changes as needed. Collaborate with college leaders in creating a learning management system to house, catalog, and offer these learning opportunities evidenced through a learning transcript.
  • Collaborate with academic leaders, assessment and institutional effectiveness, routinely reviewing data metrics in student learning to identify learning goals and improvements geared toward improving the student experience. Create and present customary accountability reports of program effectiveness and indicators of success related to DMACC’s Academic Plan and Strategic Plan. Monitor the effectiveness of the learning offerings. Use data to inform professional development offerings.
  • Administer and approve Teaching Improvement Units (TIUs) and Staff Development Units (SDU’s) submitted by faculty in accordance with the Quality Faculty Plan ( QFP ). Chair the QFP , ensuring the plan is focused on learning, development, professional growth and compliance in collaboration and coordination with Deans and Provosts. Support and foster learning communities within the college.
  • Plan/design/administer an adjunct faculty professional development procedure that aligns with the full-time faculty professional development procedure in an expanded capacity that meets college goals.
  • Teach one DMACC credit class per term (fall and spring) directly related to professional education credentials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree.

5 years of experience in an educational setting or training in a professional development setting. Experience must include exemplary evidence as a teaching/instructor.Completion of a teacher education, development, or training program.Experience with a variety of training/instructional modalities including online.Experience in planning and conducting professional development in the areas of teaching and learning.Experience in data analysis and decision-making.Record of using interpersonal skills with individuals, teams, and groups.Ability to be a collaborator and a convener, to work judiciously and diplomatically, with the capacity to build bridges and consensus.Knowledge of current software applications.Strong project management skills.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a professional relationship with a wide variety of individuals coming from diverse backgrounds.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development or related area. Experience with developing and leading faculty training on a Learning Management System (LMS) during a time when a college is transitioning to a new LMS. Experience in faculty/instructional development in a higher education setting. Successful record of experience in leadership working collaboratively with stakeholders to advance initiatives.
