Job Description

The Student Services generalist serves in the Support Hub of Inclusive Practices (SHIP) within the Graduate School. Responsibilities include having a broad understanding of Graduate School and GLC policies, services and amenities; providing excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and other guests who visit the Graduate School, answering questions and making informed and accurate referrals within and outside of the Graduate School as needed; creating and updating content on the Graduate School and Graduate Life Center websites; posting events and information on social media; responding to email inquiries; updating SHIP training documents, and scheduling generalists' SHIP shifts; gathering information on and clearly communicating resources, services and events available to graduate students.
Reporting directly to the Director of Student Services, this individual routinely interacts with a diverse population of students, department personnel, faculty and others on behalf of the Graduate School in a customer service capacity.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of experience/training; proven ability to quickly learn and clearly communicate policies and procedures; excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated experience and commitment to diversity; proven ability to cultivate positive working relationships, foster teamwork, and support collaboration; proficiency in working with computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, Outlook and Google Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference given for experience working with graduate students or non-traditional students; familiarity with Virginia Tech resources, policies and procedures; experience with creating and editing webpage and social media content.
