Senior Director of Diversity and Belonging

Full Time, On Campus

Expected Start July 1, 2022

This position serves to foster success and a sense of belonging among under represented, minority, and international students by providing general oversight for intercultural learning and experiences across the campus community. Reports to the Vice President of Student Development

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Facilitate programs and services for under-represented and minority students (70%)
  • Develop strategies and corresponding programs for support, care, persistence, and success of under-represented and minority students at Crown College
  • Counsel, advise, and consult with students, faculty, staff and alumni individually and collectively to build an inclusive, appreciative, and welcoming environment
  •  Coordinate opportunities and student experiences of reconciliation, Biblical justice programs, and identity-development initiatives across all diverse student populations
  • Chair the Diversity Committee which serves to advocate for college-wide awareness, programs, and services for minority students
  • Coach and advise faculty/staff on matters of diversity, reconciliation, Biblical justice, student conduct
Oversee international student program (20%)
  • Serve as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for the college
  • Maintain knowledge of current F-1 visa regulations
  • Update SEVIS as needed
  • Serve as advisor to international student population including orientation, housing, personal & cultural adjustment, Curricular Practical Training/Optional Practical Training (CPT/OPT) applications, taxes, Social Security, Department of Motor Vehicle needs, travel letters, I-20 updates, and other pertinent immigration issues
  • Serve as advisor to MuKappa (International Student organization)
  • Advise F-1 Crown graduates as needed –especially those on OPT
Other Responsibilities (10%)

Supervise staff, as available
    • CWS – student worker (10 hours/week)
    • Graduate Intern
  • Serve as a strategic leader within the Student Development Division
  • Participate in college committees as needed and time allows

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of SEVIS and student immigration process and regulations
  • Knowledge of F-1 Visa requirements
  • Ability to plan, organize, lead, and administer multiple projects in the same time period
  • Ability to relate to college students, international students, faculty and staff
  • Protect and maintain confidentiality

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Intercultural Studies or related degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of full time experience in cross-cultural ministry with multiple experiences of planning and leading short term trips overseas
  • Ability to plan, organize, lead, and administer multiple projects in the same time period
  • Ability to relate to college students, international students, faculty and staff
  • Prior experience as Designated School Official (DSO)
  • Unexpired US passport

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to the above minimum qualifications):

  • Master’s Degree in an intercultural studies or related field
  • Five years of full time experience in cross-cultural ministry with one of those years spent living overseas and working cross culturally
  • Significant time spent living or traveling overseas
  • Proficiency in a language(s) in addition to English
