Students in the automotive department are part of a community of faculty, students and industry. Our faculty have industry experience as Master Technicians and are dedicated to educating the next generation of technicians. The state-of-the-art professional automotive training center is used by students as well as industry partners. The Professional Automotive Career Training (PACT) program at Shoreline Community College is regarded among the top in the nation and local Honda and Acura dealerships have requested program expansion due to the high-quality technicians that Shoreline Community College creates. Automotive faculty are responsible for teaching, developing and leading a cooperative program in automotive technology. Faculty teach theory and lab in all of the following areas: Automotive Electronics, Engines, Manual & Automatic Transmissions/transaxles, Engine Management & Emissions, Electrical Systems, Heating & Air Conditioning, Brakes & Suspension.

In addition to teaching, duties include student advising in the automotive technology program; coordination of student recruitment, selection, dealer placement and graduate follow up with local Honda and Acura automobile dealers. In order to remain current with automotive technology, the instructor in this position will attend manufacturer-sponsored classes; coordinate and participate on automotive advisory committees; serve as liaison and resource person for the College-area automobile dealers and American Honda Motor Company; revise and update curriculum as required to meet industry standards and participate in college governance as well as department/division and campus-related professional activities. At least one-third of the teaching assignment may be in the evening, during the summer quarter and/or at off-campus locations.

Faculty at Shoreline will have an array of students from differing programs in their classroom, including professional technical and university transfers. Shoreline seeks a candidate that can identify and mitigate the barriers to success that many students face, and be passionate about creating an equitable learning environment that supports success for all students.   • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • ASE Master Certification (automotive)
  • Master Honda or Acura technician
  • Automobile Advanced Engine Performance Specialist Certification (L1)
  • ASE Maintenance and Light Repair Certification (G1)
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of dealership/manufacturer experience
  • Principles of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) as they apply to teaching, student support, and curriculum development
  • Learning management systems and other appropriate instructional technologies
  • Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems and other appropriate instructional technologies
  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of automotive/Honda technology courses
  • Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online
  • Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
  • Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities
  • Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
  • Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Maintaining awareness of and ability to use emerging technologies.
  • Connecting students to campus resources and support systems as appropriate
  • Effective classroom management, including facilitating/navigating challenging conversations
Conditions of Employment
This is a full-time, tenure track position, with a 172-day annual contract beginning September 22, 2022. Salary placement determined by the number of qualifying years of teaching/work experience combined with educational preparation. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
NOTE: This position is eligible to receive annual stipends in addition to the annual salary amount determined by salary placement and contingent upon continued allocation of the State of Washington High Demand funding.
