We invite applications for the permanent, full-time role of Professor, Computer Science from accomplished university educators seeking to join a collegial department where teaching innovation and student success are highly valued. We seek applicants who share our passion for high-quality undergraduate education and will contribute to the evolution of Computer Science programs at VIU.

CANDIDATE EXPECTATIONS:

The teaching responsibilities of successful candidates will include foundational and specialized undergraduate courses in Computer Science, inclusive of labs.

Areas of teaching that complement the current expertise are: Computer Architecture and Organization; Digital Design and Logic; Networks and Systems; Graphics and Game Design; Object-Oriented Design; Web and Mobile Programming.

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES:

  • PhD in Computer Science from an appropriately accredited institution, with expertise in the subject(s) to be taught.
  • Recent post-secondary teaching experience related to a selection of more than one of following areas: Computer Architecture and Organization; Digital Design and Logic; Networks and Systems; Graphics and Game Design; Object-Oriented Design; Web and Mobile Programming.
  • Active ongoing participation in professional development activities.
  • A commitment to, and understanding of, the importance of equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom and workplace.
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and commitment to a team-based working culture.
  • Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service.
