The retention coordinator manages a caseload of approximately 70 SSS participants and provides each of them with individualized academic coaching and advising including mentoring, personal development, Individualized Education and Career Plans (IECP), and other personalized needs. One of the primary responsibilities of the Retention Coordinator is to plan and implement SSS events, train and supervise academic year peer mentors and summer bridge mentors.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist students with individual needs, academic planning and advising, mentoring, personal development activities, and individual education and career plans
  • Organize and deliver program events
  • Assist with development, implementation, and delivery of SSS programs and services
  • Maintain accurate and updated student data and records
  • Coordinate peer mentoring programs, including training and supervision of the peer mentors

  • Bachelor's degree required in Education, Counseling, or related academic area; Master's preferred. 
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in counseling or academic support services of low income, first generation and/or minority students preferred.
  • Knowledge of collegiate academic and financial assistance procedures.
  • Experience networking and coordinating program activities.
  • Preference given to candidates who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project’s target population
