West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a Biology Technician withthe Department of Ophthalmology.

About the Opportunity

The newly hired person will join an exciting team of vision researchers in identifying mechanisms behind blindness and use this knowledge to generate novel ideas for treatments for vision loss in humans. In this position, you will help the team in morphologic characterization animal models for blindness, specifically you will be responsible higher resolution imaging of tissues including Transmission Electron Microscopy. In addition, you will be part of the new visual morphology and function core at WVU. We are looking for people wanting to work in a team with the focus on improving human health.

What you'll do:

  • Primary Role - Morphological characterization of tissue, specifically the eye.
  • Support research teams in investigating mechanisms behind blindness including conducting experiments as directed.
  • Preparation of reagents as needed
  • Ordering and stocking of chemicals including maintenance of inventories
  • Overall maintenance of the visual function and morphology core as a part of the team

  • Bachelors in life sciences or equivalent
  • One (1)year of lab research experience (immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence) including working with animals, and processing tissue samples preferred
  • Knowledge and laboratory experience in general molecular biology techniques.
  • Skilled in immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence
  • Skilled in tissue processing
  • Knowledge of laboratory environment and appropriate procedures.
  • Ability to prepare reagents.
  • Ability to present scientific data both orally and visually.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Skilled at using computers and applicable programs/applications.
  • Skilled at assessing chemical concentrations/amounts of various chemicalcomponents in solutions.
  • Skilled at using scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
  • Skilled at using related laboratory equipment.
  • Good organization skills and self-motivation.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new protocols/ procedures in a rapid manner.
  • Ability to get along with others in a group setting.
