Assistant Professor of Nursing

Position Available:
The Avila University School of Nursing, guided by the mission of excellence in teaching and learning, and dedicated to the service to the Dear Neighbor is actively seeking two (2) full-time Assistant Professors of Nursing to join the faculty in our mission. The successful candidate will have acute care clinical expertise preferably in critical care and/or obstetrics. This is a 10 month/year tenure-track position.

Appointment Date:
August 2022

  • Teach both theory and clinical practicum courses in the Avila School of Nursing.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and assessing nursing course(s) in a concept based curriculum.
  • Create an environment in the classroom and health care agency which facilitates student learning.
  • Serve as a professional role model for nursing students.
  • Motivate students to think, to question, and to critically analyze.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Candidates must possess a Doctoral degree in nursing, nursing practice, nursing education, or related field.
  • Doctoral candidates would be considered for a Visiting Assistant Professor position that could be converted when the degree is conferred.
  • Full time faculty will be academically and experientially qualified and maintain expertise in areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a wide variety of clinical settings.
  • Current undisciplined license to practice professional nursing in Missouri.
  • Current undisciplined license to practice professional nursing in Kansas, or willingness to obtain.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Teaching experience desirable, preferably in baccalaureate education.
  • In clinical settings, experience in critical care and/or obstetrics would be preferred.
  • Preference would be given to individuals that can instruct in nursing-related university coursework (e.g. biology)

Salary Competitive for small, private liberal arts higher education institutions within the Kansas City area.
