Job Description

Maintain, inspect, service and repair electrical and mechanical equipment in assigned academic buildings. Troubleshoot and repair any mechanical or electrical failures. Respond to trouble calls to shutdown equipment and make repairs in a safe manner. Inspect buildings for safety hazards and repair as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience at the journey level in electrical and mechanical trades in an industrial, commercial or institutional trades environment.
  • Working knowledge of blueprints, technical drawings and/or sketches.
  • Recordkeeping experience.
  • Ability to learn and use the computerized Facilities work order system to enter time: obtain, create and edit work orders; and request materials.
  • Must have excellent communication skills; be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace; have good team work skills and work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to safely move and handle heavy objects weighing 50 pounds or more; maneuver materials up and down stairs; climb and work from elevated work stations such as ladders and scaffolds; work in awkward positions and in confined spaces; and work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling.
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
  • May be required to work additional hours/shifts to meet the needs of the department.
  • Must be willing and have the ability to wear a respirator.
  • Must have valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Virginia Journey or Masters level license in either the electrical or plumbing trade.
