Job Summary

Director of Development for Pharmacy is responsible for devising and executing a comprehensive major gift fundraising plan to maximize charitable support for the University and the college through the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major gift prospects. The position will provide selected administration and project management for major gifts work and work within a collaborative team of fundraisers.

Scope

Support the University Advancement Department through serving as Director of Development for Pharmacy, providing support and fundraising for the College of Pharmacy.

Principal Responsibilities

The Director of Development for Pharmacy will:
  • Be an ambitious and dynamic development professional who is dedicated to building a strong major gift and philanthropic culture throughout his/her designated unit;
  • Have a successful history of closing major gifts, and identifying, attracting, and adding new donors;
  • Partner with the Vice President for Advancement and Dean of the assigned college, including the establishment and implementation of major gifts fundraising strategies, plans, and goals;
  • Demonstrate effective strategic skills to connect and engage alumni, faculty, donors, and local and national philanthropists in major gift opportunities; and achieve goals, including leading prospect strategy efforts, campaign efforts for her/his assigned unit, and major gifts projects as needed;
  • Be creative, innovative, and have a strong background in fundraising while working collaboratively; and
  • Have a passion for the impact that ONU can have on students, alumni, and the community.
Key job functions are to:
  • Maintain an active portfolio of capable prospects who support the designated college's and University's mission;
  • Meet or exceed specific performance and fundraising goals during the year;
  • Work with the Dean, senior faculty, and other University officials on appropriate cultivation, solicitation and stewardship visits;
  • Actively participate in development and strategy meetings;
  • Actively participate in training and professional development opportunities;
  • Represent the Division on University committees as needed; and
  • Provide leadership and direction for campaign activities and projects for the college.
Required Skills

The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of fundraising, particularly advancement in a higher education setting and planned giving vehicles, and strong behavioral competencies and attributes described below.

Functional/Technical Knowledge and Skills
  • Experience and demonstrated success in fundraising and advancement strategies and techniques, including relationship building;
  • Expertise in major gift practices in higher education including the responsibility to ensure compliance with governmental and University policies and regulations;
  • Understanding of prospect data and research techniques in order to improve measurable results;
  • Understanding of best practices in stewardship and recognition of major donors;
  • Experience implementing development and alumni engagement strategies that promote a comprehensive understanding of the college's mission, goals and priorities;
  • Collaborative and supportive working style with colleagues and volunteers;
  • Professional curiosity that results in the exploration of best practices and initiation of innovative operational solutions in major gifts;
  • Ability to travel some nights and weekends to participate in University-wide and college alumni events to further alumni and donor engagement; and
  • Technology skills including experience with CRMs, development database and prospect management software, Microsoft Office Suite, digital and electronic communication, and social media.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field
  • Significant experience (three+ years) in fundraising;
  • Experience in engaging constituencies and working with volunteers;
  • Record of developing and implementing effective fundraising plans and achieving metric-driven goals;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills; and
  • A valid driver's license and safe driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree and / or CFRE; and
  • Successful experience at a like-sized higher education institution or complex non-profit organization.
