Position Highlights

Campus Recreation (CREC) is looking for an individual to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate would be someone who enjoys detailed financial and analysis work, interacting with a variety of people and can thrive in a fast-paced environment. The Business Manager will be working closely with Campus Recreation's staff, managing the day-to-day operations of the department. The position is also responsible for training, developing, and providing support to department staff across all CREC's programs, as well as serving as the department liaison to University of Arizona's Financial Services. Additionally, the Business Manager will assist in managing, controlling and coordinating accounting, budgeting, and other financial or related functions to ensure financial integrity of the department. The Business Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of two full-time professionals and student employees within the Campus Recreation's Administration and Finance area. This position reports to the Associated Director, Administration & Finance, and works closely with the Director, Associate Directors, and Professional Staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates full time staff members
  • Assists with the coordination, preparation and submission of the annual budget
  • Assists in the monitoring and controlling of revenue and expenditure allocations, ensuring budget alignment, and alerting staff to potential issues
  • Exercises signature and approval authority up to $5,000 per transaction
  • Primary p-card liaison
  • Utilize UAccess Financials to process/review/authorize financial documents (e.g., DI's, travel reimbursements, PCard purchases, disbursement vouchers, internal billings, purchase orders). Reconcile departmental accounts and process corrections, as needed (e.g. GEC's and SET's)
  • Manage processing of student awards
  • Oversee the processing of donations, donor acknowledgment and maintenance of data in Lynx
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of UAccess Financials system and of UAccess Analytics. Support department users as appropriate and use this knowledge to create reports that are beneficial to the department
  • Develops and establishes proper procedures and internal controls in recording and reporting accurate accounting data
  • Conduct fiscal year-end account review
  • Coordinates and participates in internal and external audits
  • Responsible for developing, supporting, and training Campus Recreation staff on university and department's policies and procedures
  • Assumes a variety of tasks in the absence of subordinates
  • Additional duties as assigned as it relates to this position

Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of management and supervision practices and techniques
  • Knowledge of accounting and budgetary theories, principles and practices
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to departmental budgets and accounting practices
  • Skill in applying accounting and financial management practices and principles
  • Skill in use of automated/computer systems
  • Ability to effectively communicate

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field, AND
  • 5 years of related work experience, including experience in Budget and Accounting, and including 2 years of managerial experience; OR Any equivalent combination of education and work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • 2 years of experience in Higher Education
  • Experience with University of Arizona systems including UAccess - Student, Employee, Financial, Analytics, Axiom
  • Experience with University and UA Foundation business policy and procedures

FLSA: Exempt

Number of Hours Worked per Week: 40 (Occasional nights and weekends will be required)
