Organizational Description

More than half of American public-school students are children of color, and only 18% of their teachers are from these same racial and ethnic groups. The Branch Alliance for Educator Diversity (BranchED) was founded in 2017 to support Minority Serving Institutions (HBCUs, HSIs, tribal colleges, and others) to maximize programming and drive innovation in preparing highly-effective educators who reflect and champion the diversity of our nation's school children. These 253 Minority Serving Institutions comprise 13% of education providers in the United States, but prepare 51% of all Hispanic students earning bachelor's degrees in education, 51% of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander teacher candidates, 38% of African American teacher candidates, and 35% of bachelor's degrees in education for Native Americans and Asian Americans.

BranchED is the first and only non-profit organization in the nation that is dedicated to strengthening and growing educator preparation at MSIs, with the larger goals of both diversifying the teaching profession and intentionally addressing critical issues of educational equity for all students. BranchED's work encompasses four Centers of Excellence:

  • The BranchED Inclusive Rigorous Content Hub (BIRCH), a professional learning center, which provides a variety of learning events focused on individual faculty development.
  • The National Teacher Preparation Transformation Center, which provides technical assistance and catalytic funds to select Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) within MSIs as they progress through an intensive 3-year transformation journey.
  • The Inquiry and Innovation Center (I2), which focuses on collaborative ventures including higher education and PK-12 partners to address issues pertinent to MSIs educator preparation and the field.
  • The Equity Accelerator, which conducts equity reviews for institutions outside of our core community (i.e., MSI EPPs).

Position Objective

The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will support the mission of BranchED across all program areas in the design and facilitation of research initiatives that align with BranchED's quality framework and/or pertain to topic of importance to MSI EPPs. In collaboration with BranchED internal and external team members, the Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will design and implement and/or facilitate research tailored to the assets of higher education faculty and administrators in Educator Preparation Programs (EPP) at MSIs and their PK-12 partners.

Essential Functions

Learning Experience and Event Design

  • Collaboratively and independently designs and implements and/or facilitates research project that align with BranchED's quality framework and/or topics of importance to MSI EPPs
  • Conducts literature reviews on topics central to educator preparation at MSIs
  • Provides thought partnership to program areas on research design and implementation
  • Collaboratively develops processes, tools, and resources to support research initiatives within BranchED and our core community
  • Maintains confidentiality of client, participant, and institutional information


  • Helps cultivate an intentional organizational culture representing organizational values
  • Contributes to a high-performing and mission-driven team necessary to support excellent programming
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • Doctoral degree required in education or relevant field
  • At least 5 years work experience in research, teaching, and teacher preparation
  • Experienced in both quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Knowledge of innovative educational research methods, both quantitative and qualitative
  • Experience working with research analytic tools
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

  • This is a one-year (12-month) position with the possibility of renewal for a second year

Setting: This position operates in a general office setting. Occasional travel is expected.
