Position Announcement

Dixie State University is seeking a new Executive Director of Athletics to provide leadership, direction and oversight to the Trailblazer Athletics Department. This position is responsible for managing the Athletics administrative staff, hiring head coaching staff, and overseeing/monitoring coaches' hiring of assistant coaches. The Athletic Director ensures that all recruiting, budgetary, and all other functions of the Athletics Department align with NCAA, federal, state, and university policies.

Responsibilities
  • Organize and administer Intercollegiate Athletic programs.
  • Oversee all Athletics Department booster clubs, ensuring fiscal responsibility and compliance with appropriate rules for the University.
  • Ensure the University and all Athletics staffing adhere to and follow all NCAA and conference rules and regulations, as well as all regulations governing the operation of Athletics programs and all ethical standards of behavior.
  • Provide leadership for long-term strategic planning and facilities development of Athletics programs.
  • Take responsibility for the University Athletics facilities and fields. Arrange for scheduling game and practice sessions. Coordinate with Facilities Management on daily, monthly, and yearly maintenance schedules.
  • Manage budget preparation and oversee fiscal management for Athletics department.
  • Direct fundraising for various aspects and teams within the Athletics program.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee strategic goals and objectives for the department.
  • Oversee the department's continued transition into the Division I classification.
  • Serve as a member of the President's cabinet.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years' experience as a Division I NCAA Athletic Director required.
  • Knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment of intercollegiate athletics and dedication to abide by the letter and intent of NCAA and conference regulations.
  • Proven ability in athletic fundraising, corporate sponsorships, and scholarships.
  • Effective public speaking, marketing, and community and donor relations skills.
  • Ability to represent the University well in the community and state.
  • Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with students, faculty, staff, and the public.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS:Dixie State University began its transition to NCAA Division I status in 2020-21 and is in its second season as a member of the Western Athletic Conference. DSU has been a member of the NCAA since the 2006-07 season and competed at the Division II level after several decades as a NJCAA national power. Prior to their arrival to the WAC, the Trailblazers were full members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference from 2018-20 (football since 2016). During its two seasons in the RMAC, Dixie State claimed RMAC regular season championships in women's volleyball (2018) and men's basketball (2019-20), along with the 2019 women's tennis and softball postseason tournament crowns. In addition, 184 student-athletes earned all-RMAC academic honors overall, including 25 first team selections. Prior to its move to the RMAC, Dixie State enjoyed a successful 11-year run in the Pacific West Conference. During its time in the PacWest, Dixie State won 20 conference team championships, had 545 student-athletes earn academic all-conference honors (from 2013-18), and won four PacWest Community Engagement Awards. Since DSU became eligible for postseason play in 2009, the Trailblazers made 63 NCAA Division II Regional Championship appearances and won five regional championships, including three in softball in 2009, 2014 and 2015 (national runner-up), one in men's golf (2019) and one in women's soccer (2019 - Elite 8 appearance). DSU has also had 29 student-athletes earn Division II All-America honors, while 23 more student-athletes collected Academic All-America recognition. In the classroom, Dixie State student-athletes posted an NCAA-era record high 3.25 cumulative grade-point average among its 15 varsity sports for the 2020-21 academic year. DSU student-athletes combined to record a 3.279 Fall 2020 semester GPA, and a 3.219 Spring 2021 GPA, which marked the eighth-straight semester and 13th semester in the last 16 overall that Trailblazer student-athletes combined to earn at least a 3.00 semester GPA.
