The Amherst College Department of Religion seeks a scholar of African-American or African diasporic religion for a full-time one-year visiting appointment at the rank of visiting assistant professor, beginning on July 1, 2022. Within the last fifteen years, Amherst College has profoundly transformed its student body in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, race, and nationality. The candidate's research and teaching interests should center upon one or more of the following areas: Black Atlantic religion, African-American religion, or African diasporic religions. The candidate will be expected to teach two courses in the fall and two courses in the spring, one of which should focus on themes of race and religion and another that may be a general introduction to the study of religion. The candidate may also advise honors theses.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in hand by the start of the appointment. Learn more about the department at https://www.amherst.edu/academiclife/departments/religion. An application letter (including brief descriptions of four possible courses), C.V., one sample syllabus, and three confidential letters of recommendation should be submitted electronically to http://apply.interfolio.com/101093. Review of applications will begin on March 18, 2022, and will continue until the position is filled.
